I don't think three consecutive lefty hitters against a lefty pitcher would be wise.

Against a righty hurler, fine.

Not easy to come up with a lineup with this group, BP out, Choo's issues v lefties.

Cardinals have an extremely easy schedule up to the All Star break. They play the Astros 4 times, the Cubs 4 times, the Angels 3 times, and the Marlins 3 times. The only good team they play is the A's for 3 games.

What I'm questioning is whether or not he'll leave Bronson in to get hammered. In the past, Dusty has basically conceded the game and allowed bad Bronson (which happens a couple of times a year) to get hammered and the game to get out of reach. 3. Obviously you're new to how Dusty lets Bronson get shelled. In the past, Dusty simply concedes the game. I am against conceding games.
4. Before the A's got 6 or 7 runs, Dusty could have put in Lecure or someone who could go 3 innings, and Cingrani is a lefty and the A's stacked the lineup with lefthanded hitters.

Maybe the Reds could have stopped the bleeding and removed Arroyo on his "off night" of pitching.

Hanigan had a very good year in 2010 and was passable in 2011-12. Never had power; hit lefties better; good OBP man for a slow catcher.

But this year it's just brutal. He looks fine defensively, still throws well. But wow he's just an automatic out at the plate.

Maybe he'll get going, but it seems very possible the guy isn't healthy.

Choo with one to the wall. That'll be a sacrifice fly. 7-2.

Wow, Hanigan really just cannot hit anymore. It's just getting ridiculous. He was never a power hitter but he used to make contact and get on base.

Is he hurt, is he distracted? Guy really is struggling this year.

No sense in speculating, but I'm gonna guess its mental.

Hanigan IMO used everything he had to get to the bigs, and I think your seeing a free fall from the little ceiling he had,

I didn't mean it as a negative. He made a really good career for himself with what little talent he had. No doubt he had been a good player for the Reds.

I was just saying he couldn't afford to lose what little pure skill he had.

Votto takes ball four on four pitches. We've got 1st and 2nd again. Let's see if we can do anything with it.

Tony LaRussa was famous for leaving guys out to take one for the team and he seemed to be an okay manager.

Be a good time to get the bullpen some work:

Hoover: Pitched last Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Didn't pitch all weekend and had yesterday off.

Lecure: Pitched last Monday and Wednesday. Hasn't pitched since.

Partch: Pitched last Tuesday and Friday. Hasn't pitched since.

Simon: Pitched last Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Hasn't pitched since.

Cingrani: PItched last Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Hasn't pitched since.

Nevermind. Let's just concede the game.

Meanwhile, Pirates are winning big and so are the Cardinals. I guess 3.5 back sounds good.

The hitting is conceding the game by having half the batters get themselves out. 2 runs..... not going to win you a lot of games, even with 4 innings to go.

Interesting. Never thought of it that way. Too bad because Hanigan was a nice eighth place hitter, better than most. Mes will be getting more PT if this continues, Reds won't abide a .160 hitter playing so often should it get that low.

You don't pull your starting pitcher in the 2nd inning in June. You will literally set your bullpen (which is already thin to begin with) back for weeks.

It's not a good idea. No manager in baseball is going to do what you're asking. Not one.

Seattle did tonight. Saunders started and pitched 1.2 innings giving up 6 runs to the Pirates. I guess the Mariners manager doesn't want to concede games like the Reds manager does.

The Rockies are trying to stay in the race. Their starter Nicasio gave up 12 hits and 6 runs in 2.1 innings before getting pulled against the Red Sox tonight. I guess the Rockies manager doesn't want to concede any games either.

Reds should totally try to be more like the Mariners and Rockies, two teams they're way better than.

It's not about "conceding" games. It's about giving yourself the best chance to win the most games over the course of a long season.

Telling you, Dusty forgot about the DH rule and is still waiting to pinch hit for Bronson, LOL.

Bases loaded now for Jay Bruce.

Well, gee..........if maybe Arroyo was pulled after giving up only 3 or 4 runs, the Reds might have a chance to come back and win this thing. Allowing the starter to get shelled for 6 or 7 runs, is basically giving up.

A sense of urgency would be a nice thing to see occasionally when the wheels are falling off.
