Cano and Choo I can see even tho I think a team will regret the last couple years if they get contracts that long...but Ellsbury...a team is nuts that pays him that much for that long...too inconsistent for my taste...huge risk

I'm guessing that Canos contract will not be as egregious as predicted in here, he's dumped Boras, and he wants to be a Yankee lifer (or so it's been reported). I think we'll see him take a smaller contract as I believe AROD may have altered the Yankees willingness to accept huge contracts... Especially after the 2007 shenanigans.

What is IRA? Is there anybody who knows about this?

It would be helpful if you told us where you got the image from.

Those ages are slightly off. Those were probably the ages when the list was made. Choo wiil end the season at 31 and will be 32 three months into his new contract. Seeing how a qualifying offer with draft pick compensation seems to suppress the prices for guys over 30, I'm guessing Choo will get something more like 3 years, 40 to 45 Million.

Are you nuts?
Michael Bourn(30) ~ 91 ops+ 5 years $60 million including an option
Nick Swisher(32) ~ 118 ops+ 5 years $70 million including an option
Shane Victorino(32) ~ 102 ops+ 3 years $39million
I think His contract will be around 5 years $85 million at the least.

With Scott Boras on board I'm saying no chance. He'll get 4 or 5 years easy.

He's talking about Choo not Cano. Cano will get more than 5 years no matter who his agent is.

Cano is going to get Jeter money since he's going to be the face of the Yankees going forward since Rivera, AfRod, Jeter, etc are all gonna be gone/retired soon. Jeter got 10 years and 189 mil in 2001. Granted Jeter is younger than Cano is now. I expect 7 years (with 8th being an option of some sort) at like 22 mil average value.

Choo gets 4 years probably 65 range.
I think Ellsbury gets 6 years 100 mil.

There is no way in the world that you pay a platoon player (Choo) 15 mil a year for any period. That is NY Yankee crazy. Love the guy but he is situational at best.

Choo definitely is 'situational' in reality, but that is not how a GM is going to view him. If we haven't learned anything by now, we should know that GM's don't look at contract/player value the way we do. Everyone gets more than they are supposed to get...from the great players like Pujols to the **** players like Ty Wiggington.

Choo: 5 Years 12.5 Per. (no...he will not get 15 per.)
Cano: He's going to retire a Yankee. They'll give him 19 mill a year for the next 8 years. He's not a Pujols in terms of skill and not Jeter in terms of allure so he wont be ridiculously overpaid.
Ellsbury: 6 years at 14.5 per.

Are you high?

Andre Ethier(122ops+, .643ops vs L)= 6 yrs/$95.95M & $17.5M vesting option

Ryan Howard(134ops+, .728ops vs L)= 5 yrs/$125M & $23M team option

Shin-Soo Choo(132ops+, .672ops vs L)= minimum of 5 yrs/$85M, maximum of 7yrs/$133

Choo: There is no way he will get contract under 15 per. He has been offensively superior to even Cano in his career and his agent is Boras.
Cano: No way he will get contract under 20 million a year
Ellsbury: His agent is also Boras. Even if it's not, that doesn't make sense at all.

I think that many people in Redszone underrate the talent of Choo as a player.

In 2012, Reds ended the season with 12th in OBP, and 9th in Run.
In 2013, Reds rank 3rd in OBP, 4th in Run so far, largely thanks to Choo.

The fact that Choo is a high OBP guy alone guarantees the jackpot because nowadays the majority of GM and FO have OBP-centric mind.

X 2

High OBP is exactly what you want from a lead off hitter. It'd be nice if the Reds could find a proper CF and slide Choo into a corner so that Choo's defense isn't such a liability.
