Here is how I see it right now with Cingrani (as I see the first pitch called a ball that was right down the middle to Pence). He is not getting many calls lower in the strike zone (and the third "ball" to Pence was a prime example). I am not sure if it is a receiving thing from Mesoraco's end or if the umps are that terrible, but for the last 3-4 starts he has had, the umps have not called anything on the corners or at the bottom of the zone. You can tell Tony is not appreciative of it either.

Maybe one day he will "earn" that part of the zone, but it is astonishing on how often those pitches are not called in his favor.

Kingspoint
07-23-2013, 07:27 PM
However it happened, nice recovery by Cingrani.

Agreed, and he should be our starter from here on out. It's always been a matter of when he takes over full-time, not if. When he was drafted, the expected time-line for him to take over full-time was about six years. Mesoraco remained on that pace the entire time with a bump in the road because of the wrist injury. Being a Catcher and the way he's been brought along, he'll continue to improve for many years to come.

Totally agree. I was skeptical about him in the minors just based on the over-reliance of the fastball, but if he can control his offspeed stuff and not be afraid to use it, he's going to have a very nice future.
