With tough series against the Dodgers, Reds fortunate that Pirates dropped two of three to Miami and Cards have lost first two to Braves.

Reds lost two of three to very tough LA pitchers so far, this would be a nice one to get. Hope Cingrani is on his game. When Choo was acquired we all speculated that in some of the bigger ballparks, someone else would play CF. Well, today's the day.

How is it possible that ...

A. George Grande doesn't know how to pronounce "Cingrani"?

and ...

B. No one corrects him when he blurts out "CinGRANNY"? Where is the producer in his ear?

Uhhhggg, at least this will be the last George Grande game for a while. Hopefully for the rest of the season. Brutal. Nails against the chalkboard. There is a reason Castellini and Co. wanted to replace him with Thom (and threw a bunch of money at Thom to make it happen).

I'm not one to do a lot of complaining about the broadcasters. In fact, over the years I probably complained more about George Grande than any of the others (with the exception of the ill-fated one-year experiment with Paul Keels).

But I gotta say, there's something that just feels right about George and Chris together on TV.

With a non-great lefty going against them, some of these RH hitters have to produce. Votto and Bruce are good against lefties, but some of these righties need to mash lefties like this.

In previous years, BP mashed lefties, not this year. The closest they have right now seems to be Heisey whose hot streak has been mostly playing against lefties.

Frazier, Mesoraco, Phillips, even Cozart need to hit a few good shots against this guy.

As I was saying last night, and was misunderstood by my esteemed colleague from Da Bronx, it doesn't take a great left-hander like Kershaw to shut down this lineup as it is presently constructed. Even a decent one (Ryu) or a nondescript journeyman (Capuano) is enough to do it. The point was that pedestrian is the only level that matters. Does he wear a glove on his right hand? Great. You're good to go vs. the Reds. Anything above it is gravy.

Actually, per Baseball Reference (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=CIN&year=2013), before today the Reds are only slightly worse v. LHPs than right handers:

vs. LHPs: .251/.341/.399 for an OPS of .740

ESPN has it even closer than that. Versus lefties .727 and versus righties .730. Numbers are extremely close between the two for the Reds this year.

But the Reds have hitters who dominate righties. Choo and Votto, with Bruce just behind.

The Reds don't have anyone who dominates lefties. Many righty hitters have that ability, Reds don't have any. Ludwick did last year, so he can. Phillips did in past years, he can.

When I last looked, Votto and Bruce were the best hitters on the team against lefties. Should have a righty bat who can match these two lefties hitting against LHP.

The only reason the Reds have good numbers against lefties is because Votto and Bruce, both lefties, hit both lefties and righties so well. The RHHs who are supposed to smash lefties, aren't.

That at bat by Phillips was really very poor. Capuano probably tired, lefty pitcher, Brandon needs to smash one in that spot.

It's just amazing Dusty does what redszone wants and it doesn't work.

I mean we seriously had people complaining about bunting with a pitcher when there was a guy on 2nd with nobody out. Every manager in baseball would have bunted.

Your canned response about how great it would be if redszone ran the team is so tired. I didn't say fire Dusty, fire Jacoby, Reds suck, etc. I made an observation and if you value stats at all, it fleshes it out. Maybe our offensive philosophy needs an overhaul. Nothing wrong with saying that.
