I like watching the A's....great OF defense

Reds need a win on Votto bobble head night.

I'll be in front row of RCF for tomorrow's game.

I like it when the Reds win. Go Reds!

Prediction: Votto goes yard and smacks the Joey Votto bobblehead out of someone's hand in left field.

That jump was terrible. Just absolutely terrible. Unless Votto gets on base that is an automatic out. A good base runner should at least make it close, especially on a breaking ball.

Edit: nitpicking a bit, but that was a run and hit, not a hit and run.

I'm sorry, but do you understand the point of starting the runner on a 3-2 pitch? Robinson's one job was to not get picked off. The point of starting the runner is not to steal. If Votto strikes out, it's likely going to be a double play. You're wagering that Votto isn't going to strike out.

I'm sorry, but do you understand the point of starting the runner on a 3-2 pitch? Robinson's one job was to not get picked off. The point of starting the runner is not to steal. If Votto strikes out, it's likely going to be a double play. You're wagering that Votto isn't going to strike out.

Yes, I absolutely understand the point of starting the runner. Not, IMO, what was going on there.

His lead and jump were atrocious. Yes, Votto shares responsibility, but that kid got thrown out by 10 feet. With his speed, that's not good.
He has been a bad base stealer up here, especially with his speed.

That one wasn't on him, though.

If you think Robinson was running to steal there, I'm not sure what to tell you.

There's not a chance that's what he was doing with how bad of a jump he had. He wouldn't have went.

That jump was terrible. Just absolutely terrible. Unless Votto gets on base that is an automatic out. A good base runner should at least make it close, especially on a breaking ball.

Edit: nitpicking a bit, but that was a run and hit, not a hit and run.

Run and hit; Hit and run... The exact same thing.

I think it was a run and hit, a more aggressive (and rarely used now days) variant of the hit and run. The batter has the option of whether or not to swing. The runner absolutely has to have a shot at being safe if the batter doesn't get on. Anyway, back to the game.

Bruce strikes out looking. Nasty pitch there.

08-06-2013, 09:15 PM
If that was any pitch but a 3-2 pitch, you might have been able to sell me that Robinson was going on his own.

On a 3-2 pitch? There was a 100% chance that was a hit and run.

No, they are not. The difference is in the batter's obligation to swing.

That's just a straight steal. And that was not what that was. It was a hit and run and Votto screwed up.

Saw the worst AB I have ever seen in tonight's Dodgers - Cards game.

Kelly had just walked Puig, was 3-0 on Either, and Either swung on 3-0 on a ball almost In the dirt, the would have been ball four, and hit into a 4-6-3 double play. Just horrible.

I know that would've been a heck of a play, but it seems like Votto's range this year has taken a huge hit -- he just can't get down to the ground. Not sure if it's his knee or just a little bit of age showing up, but it seems pretty consistent.
