Why does it matter?

Mez or JH are the other options at this particular juncture

The continuing hysteria over the # 2 slot is easily the most over commented aspect of this Reds season by far, it's a din

Most commented and most annoying.

Frankly, it's much ado about nothing. The most optimistic projections have it "maybe" meaning a difference in two wins total over the course of a season. That means to this point in the season, all of the hand-wringing Redszone is guilty of has been about "maybe" 5-15 runs over the course of a year and very easily not even that.

Two games could mean the division or wild card. How is that insignificant?

Two games could be added by randomness alone or by having an even worse lineup than what people perceive Dusty's to be.

That's the whole point. People are complaining about something with such a little return that it could be just as easily achieved by complete and utter luck.

People need to stop acting like "could" is the same as "should" or "would."

The Reds have no real options currently for the 2 hole, but I just don't understand why you don't run Frazier back out there in the 2 after he actually has a good game? After coming off an 0-31.

My instinct is that if Frazier were in the lineup, he'd still be in the 2-hole since it's worked the last few days. I guess the question is: why is Frazier not in the lineup? It could be that he has some sort of minor injury or wasn't feeling well, or some other reason we're not privy to. Obviously fair to wonder.

I'm sure Dusty has his reasons, though. This is what he is commended for by all his players: managing the clubhouse. The days on/off seem to be a part of that recipe.

"I was hoping Todd would get his act together," Baker said. "We need him, big time. I probably won't play him tomorrow, because their guy throws a whole bunch of sliders, which is his nemesis. We'll have him back there the next day."

In addition, I think Hannahan hits pretty well off of Ross.

Best way to handle "talkers" near you, is to engage them, and talk about this new rash you've been dealing with the last few days. Ask them if they have any advice to help with the itching and the oozing. That tends to shut them up.

Yet people want to argue Votto hasn't been bad defensively this year. It's not just the errors (and my is he racking up the errors for a first baseman). There have been many other plays this season -- like the one we just saw -- where he could have been charged an error but wasn't.

Simply put: Votto's defense has regressed. There is no debating this.

I haven't seen anyone who's been saying he's not been worse defensively this year. There's no question about it. His effort is not there defensively. That play was just another example of a lackadaisical effort at first. His decision making over there has been pretty poor this year too. Too many times wanting to go to 2nd on a ball hit to 1st when the smart play was to take the sure out at first. Too many times ranging too far to his right leaving Phillips hung out to dry. I'm not down on Votto. Not at all. But his effort and results at first have been towards the bottom of the league this season defensively IMO.

Since you brought it up ... I've got to admit I've been thinking the same thing. Keep in mind the knock on Votto used to be he was subpar defensively at 1B. I'm talking when he first came up from the minors. Joey then worked his ass off to become a good defensive first basemen. There were stories about him working for hours on infield practice.

You don't hear those stories anymore. Doesn't mean it's not happening, but I serious wonder if it is. Is Joey putting the same work in defensively as he used to? I don't know. If I had to guess based on the results, I would say no.

do you think he will be called up in September? You can't steal 1st...can he get on base in the majors?

I think he can. He's having a better year for a first-year AAA player than most are giving him credit for. That's a tough transition for most young players and he's only 22. He's still having a solid year. I don't ever expect him to be a perennial All-Star, but I think he's going to help the Reds win a lot of games over the next several years.

And yes, I think he will be a September callup.

University of Florida Central? Do they have a good team this year?

Sorry Klu. You wanna watch via mlb.tv?

Nah, I've tuned in to the old standby, Marty and Cowboy on radio.

Completely frustrating. Especially against a scrub team like this (at home).

After Frazier had a good night last night, he sits... Cozart back in the 2 hole.
What ever happened to Dusty riding the hot horse?

Dude we'er in the middle of a modest win streak. Give. It. Up.

It's so frustrating to see the Reds not able to do anything against no name pitchers.

I understand the logic of not wanting Frazier to face this guy but putting your worst hitter between 2 of your best hitters makes zero sense. And Hannahan has to be better. Can't blame Dusty for his night.

In Columbus, you mean. I'm in Dayton and I've been watching on Time Warner this entire time. I feel the pain for the Columbus folks, though. Wrestling? Sheesh.

At this point I feel bad for Hannahan. He's not a great player by any means but he is good defensively and just having one awful night.

I assumed maybe Frazier was banged up...apparently no mention of why he is not playing?

Yeah, it's in Jack's head now. No doubt.

That throw was completely due to overthinking. Trying to NOT throw it awry.

Not saying anything about Hannahan defense...well now I am after that throw..3 errors now.

But Frazier was 0-33 and had a couple of hits last night...
