I know he's easing him back in, but I'm surprised that Ludwick is sitting against a lefty.

Surprised not to see Todd in the two hole, especially after the game he had in Chicago.

Reds: Choo 8, Heisey 7, Votto 3, Phillips 4, Bruce 9, Frazier 5, Mesoraco 2, Cozart 6, Leake RHP

Yes, lineup construction is overrated. However I would like to hear Dusty's logic in how me makes up the lineup.

Kc61
08-16-2013, 04:08 PM
I usually can figure out the reasoning for these batting orders, or so I think.

This one has me stumped. Maybe trying to get Heisey going. The two spot seems to be the "get guys going" spot on the Reds.

I would have left Frazier second until Ludwick moves back to fourth, Phillips second.

Would've liked to see Ludwick play too.
He has no hits, but has hit the ball hard. (It was so sad to see him robbed of what should've been a 2 run single last night)

I think at this point in the season, it's more important to try to get Ludwick going than to try to get Heisey going.

Would've kept Frasier #2 while it was working too.

Oh well, Dusty has been spinning the magic lately. Hopefully another win :)

What's up with the odd obsession on here that Frazier has to hit second? He's 5/27 (.185) with a .683 OPS in the 2 hole. Better than he has been lately? Sure. Has to keep batting 2nd? No way.

Looks to me more like people are saying "Seems like an odd time to move him" or "he's the best of bad options" than an obsession.

I recall this pitcher throwing some good games for the Cubs against the Reds. Heisey is up, swinging away as usual, 0-2 count. A .202 BA, time for Chris to get it going.

Now count at 2-2. Brewers announcer says Reds are a patient hitting team. Well, he's right for some of them, but an odd comment with Heisey up.

Francisco is murder on right handed pitching. As he matures and gains more patience, he will be a force.

Can't hit lefties, obviously didn't make it defensively at third.

But he's murder on righty pitching. Hoover is good too, a good trade for the Reds, but this guys isn't fun to pitch to.

RedWilly

i actually called that homer but I didn't write it down so
What's this pattern, when somebody homers the next guys swing away at the first pitch?

I've heard that strategy from multiple coaches. "Pitchers down, probably going to groove a fastball." I don't agree with it but it is out there.

Leake facing middle of the Brew order. Leake at 60 pitches through four innings, not terrible.

Lucroy leading off. Gets ahead of Lucroy, 0-2. Lucroy with 16 homers having a nice year.

Now 2-2 count on two low pitches.

Full count now, Mes goes out to the mound, looked like a possible cross-up.

Leake shaking off Mes profusely. Foul. Lucroy singles, Choo might have been playing a bit too deep. Looked catchable.

On that play, the runner on second, Lucroy, decided not to run on Choo. But Davis didn't realize this and headed for third. So there were two Brewers around third base and eventually Lucroy was forced to run and Mes tagged him out.

Considering the situation, yes he should've been sent. But Lucroy knew Choo's arm. He would've been toast for sure. Davis simply never even checked the 3rd base coach until he was 3/4's of the way to third.

From what you say, I'm assuming the 3rd base coach told Lucroy to stop? I didn't see the signal.

That one is completely on Davis. Lucroy and the coach have the right to stop the runner at third if it looks too close. I don't blame the coach or Lucroy at all.
