Here's the Red-Leg lineup. Looks like Hanigan is going to be Bailey personal catcher. Gallardo is scheudeled to start for the Brewers. The Reds owe him big time.

1. Shin-Soo Choo (L) CF
2. Todd Frazier (R) 3B
3. Joey Votto (L) 1B
4. Brandon Phillips (R) 2B
5. Jay Bruce (L) RF
6. Ryan Ludwick (R) LF
7. Zack Cozart (R) SS
8. Ryan Hanigan (R) C
9. Homer Bailey (R) P

So, this looks to be the lineup going forward. Hanigan for Arroyo and Bailey, Mes for everyone else. Frazier in the 2 spot, Cozart either 7th or 8th. I don't see Ludwick moving up any time soon.

I like it.

Here's hoping seeing Gallardo for the second time in a week works to our advantage, and that it works against the Brewers in Bailey's case. I'm such a homer.

Bailey has never pitched with Scott Barry as the home plate umpire.

Gallardo has one game in 2009 with Barry behind the plate. 5 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks, 3 K's against the Dodgers.

True. But I'm still wondering why all the FB's to that guy? Homer and Hanny are usually on the same page and Hanigan is a fantastic pitch caller. I'd have to say he botched that batter. If you don't want to pull out the curve, fine. At least change speeds. He's a dead-red fastball hitter, you can fool him badly just by changing speeds. Of course the best idea was the curveball IMO. Odd.

The guy crushes fastballs. I really didn't understand pitching to his strength.

Out of curiosity, are you basing that off the sum of 5-6 games you've seen him against the Reds? It seems you remember him hitting a homer of Cingrani and a double off Leake, and therefore he must feast off fastballs.

The guy has a grand total of 77 MLB plate appearances. I think it's far too early to say what he can or can't hit.

I agree completely. But I'm assuming that OBM or anyone else probably has no clue what his tendencies were in the minors, since I doubt anyone made it a habit of watching Nashville games or Huntsville, so I'm saying that it's too early to establish what he's able to hit or not hit at this level from what most fans have seen.

I don't think OBM's comments were off base. They seem pretty accurate to me. That's the book on most hitters that aren't great hitters, so I don't think he made a huge reach in what he said. I don't think we need 2,000 PA to glean he mashes fastballs and struggles with breaking pitches.

Yeah. But the guy's a casual baseball fan, watching baseball....his team playing against a team to which he probably pays little attention (why would he or anyone else outside of Milwuakee this year?) making an observation based on what he's seen this guy do to us in a very short sample size.

And it's no more fair for you to assume he's wrong, since what little we have seen supports his opinion.

Why isn't some humility called for? If someone's a casual baseball fan, maybe they should be a little more careful not to make matter-of-fact judgments about scouting reports and such they are not privy to based on 5-6 games.
