I wonder how long Dusty will give Bruce in the 4th spot a chance to work out? Or will he move Ludwick back there once he gets going a bit better.

I hope Bruce stays in 4 hole against RHP. I would rather have 3 ABs with he and Votto back to back against a RHP then worry about 1/2 against a LHP late in game.

Nice that Dusty has tried to shake up the lineup a bit.
I appreciate the effort. Might as well bat Phillips #2, and see how it works now as opposed to waiting until the playoffs.

Big game tonight.. A win tonight earns us a little respect.
A loss.. well, that pretty much kills any chance of winning the division.

Then he needs to bench his third base coach too.

The batting order is ok, but the last five hitters in it could be a real snooze fest against Wainright.

Interesting. If Bruce were 4th all year, he'd have a lot more RBI than Phillips has currently. Not to mention Votto would probably have slightly better numbers too, with the better protection he would have.

If the frustration is compounded by the recent (and neverending) woes against the cardinals just remember the pitching has been the goat this year vs them, not anything a batting order tweak would have changed. 6.65 runs per game allowed is ugly.

I have never seen an overt sign - read that public --- that Dusty ever punishes -- now he may do it privately but I have my doubts.

If he was doing public punishment -- he's had SO many chances this year and he's passed on every one.

Next issue -- is it a good idea -- that's another debate.

You can do that with a rookie.

But not with a star, not with Kemp or Ethier or Gonzales.

Or Rose, Bench, Perez, Larkin or Votto.

If you want to, if you absolutely need to win the game, you do not play Cesar Izturis instead of Zach Cozart. He can ground Zach after the season's over. Double secret probation.

But winning games comes first.

After all, it's not like Juan Castro is still on the bench, ready to step in.

There was a tweet today that Phillips has the 3rd worst obp in the NL since the all star break and 5th worst slugging % in NL since all star break. I don't follow ctrent but I'm guessing he retweeted it or something.

I think it's an overreaction but I think people need to lighten up. Though it may be misplaced, he's just frustrated like everyone here. His outburst wasn't classless, it was just misplaced anger.

I think people need to be a little less judgmental. Athletes have emotions too and sometimes they vent them. Phillips is guilty of wearing his emotions on his sleeve but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Like I said, in this case, he overreacted but frankly people are tired of thinking this team doesn't care... well guess what? Phillips is proving he does.

Yadi calls probably the best game in baseball and I have no confidence in Rob "lets have Rosenthal throw 20000 straight fastballs" Johnson's ability to call a game behind the plate. I never said I had a problem with people overreacting in a game thread. But an overreaction should be able to be responded to, and corrected, when it happens. And unlike this kind of comment that happens once in a blue moon, the constant negativity in this thread happens every night all night and usually by the same folks.

As I said, I'm not denying Phillips overreacted. But I find it just as ironic people that overreact constantly on a message board are outraged that Phillips overreacted at comments made about him. He's showing emotion. He went too far, yes, but he's just reacting out of frustration. Just think he should be cut some slack.
