I know Helton stung the Reds big last night but the guy I'm afraid of tonight is Matt Stairs.

I lucked into 24 dollar tickets on stub hub. 38 rows behind home plate. Hooray Rockies being out of contention when the Reds come to town.

If Reds want to win the division, they need to start playing better. Like now.

Dusty keeps referring to some big winning streak the Reds are poised to have. Somebody needs to tell him that the regular season ends in a month.

Go Reds.

Reynolds having a hard time locating his knuckle curve in warmups. We have a view from right behind him watching. Price telling him to raise him arm and finish...flying too much from the side. Just passing that along :)

No - if they win they stay the same behind the leader but gain on the team that loses for the first WC

Frazier's stat line shows this very large increase in ground ball rate this year.

That double play ball was almost predictable.

For a power hitter to hit 47% (approx) ground balls, just doesn't do it.

A loud out, but Mes making the case for hitting above Frazier.

Mes, Frazier and Cozart haven't made any case this year offensively.

Mesoraco's issue is that he is below .690 OPS and getting lower. Not a particularly strong argument.

I think Walt is who needs to make the next move. Most had Frazier figured for a strong bench/part-time player. If the Reds had a good lefty hitting 3B to play most of the time, Frazier might look pretty good as a 1B/3B/LF/RF sub who gets 300 to 350 PAs per season.

Well you just cited Frazier's September a post ago as a sign of impending doom for this year. Since the All-Star break Mesoraco has a .747 OPS.

Yeah, I like Mes for the future, I'm a bit disappointed with his overall year. Didn't mean to say he won't be good, I like his plate discipline. He's getting better which is important.

I also like Cozart quite a bit, but he will not take a walk. It's maddening. He could be a superior shortstop all around but his walk rate is destroying his OBP, which is unacceptable.

Frazier, really needs to work on things this off season. He's fallen off a cliff, and the ground ball rate seems to be the culprit.

I just think these three guys could have helped the offense more this season.

His August...maybe it's just me, but it seemed like he was mashing the ball but was finding a ton of leather instead of grass. I'm guessing his babip was REALLY low in August.

Mes' BABIP was low, .261, in August. June was low too, July high.

But his LD rate was low in August, his ground ball rate low, hit a lot of fly balls.

Maybe with a lot of home games in August he will benefit from the friendly confines of GABP.

You made very good points, Mes did have a low BABIP in August. The Batted Ball section (on the player's page) in Fangraphs breaks down LD rate, GB rate, FB rate, which I find instructive.

I don't mind Mes hitting more fly balls, that's the only way he will eventually become the power hitter we all expect. Hope some leave the stadium in September. Maybe even tonight.

Define "clutch". Hitting with RISP? Hitting during the late innings?

He's clearly scuffling lately, but even a scuffling Votto is better than 80% of players in the bigs. You might want to look up those stats before you base your opinion on his RBI's. Because that's what it seems like you're doing.

Also, you really come off as someone who's rooting AGAINST the Reds. You seem to take joy in their struggles. Seems like an odd way to follow a team.
