Let me try my luck at starting a game thread. Good luck Reds today as September begins.

Choo-8
Phillips-4
Votto-3
Bruce-9
Mesoraco-2
Heisey-7
Hannahan-5
Cozart-6
Leake-1

For those who want Mesoraco in the middle of the order, today is your day. FWIW, seems like a fair decision to let Heisey play for Ludwick today, and to let Hannahan give Frazier a day off.

Good news is Frazier gets a day off. Bad news is Hannahan is all we have to replace him. Good news is Jack's been hitting better of late. Better news is Cozart's been hot. I like this lineup.

Cards beating the Pirates 5-0 in 4th. Much as I hate the Cards this might be the best outcome for the Reds combined with a win today.

IMO, the Cards-Pirates series has gone well for the Reds. It's good the Pirates won the series because looking forward they have the toughest schedule, lots of road games.

But of course, at this point, it's really in the Reds' hands. If they get hot and win a bunch of games they will either win the division or be a home wild card. If they play medium, they will be a road wild card. If they mostly lose, they can still be caught for the last wild card spot if DBacks get hot.

You have to give the Pirates credit though, they played the Cards tough down the stretch. They certainly haven't fallen apart to date.

And he wasn't jogging. I'm fine with it. A Hustle play that didn't work out and ends up looking like a stupid play. It's on Votto but it's not as bad as it's being made out to be.

The problem I have with this is I don't see it as a hustle play. There's no way Votto knew where that ball ended up because it was behind him. It looks like he assumed the ball made it through to centerfield....it didn't. The 3rd base coach knew it didn't and threw up the stop sign which Votto chose to ignore.

Votto definitely knew where the ball was. The replay shows that he rounded the bag and clearly watched the ball being thrown to Helton at first and still went anyway.

It would seem that this Rockies reliever would have more trouble with lefties. He throws a nasty slider and the righties are struggling with it.

So Votto really should have let Hannahan hit there, rather than going for the aggressive play at home.

And Jack did get a single next inning.

I'm glad the Reds want to be aggressive on the bases. The problem is that they are slow. So they usually run into outs. Teams with speed are better situated for those kinds of plays.

Maybe he is trying too hard. That running play was pretty ill-advised.

At the bat, it would be interesting to track Joey's hit chart. Just wonder if he is trying to pull the ball now, hit for more power.

Joey was pretty effective mostly going to left field, but maybe he's trying to drive the ball more now.
