Reds:

Choo
Phillips
Votto
Bruce
Ludwick
Frazier
Cozart
Hanigan
Cingrani

It would appear no rest for the wary(Votto), and that Hanigan is back to the 3 in a 3/2 split.

Dear Tony,

The bullpen called and they requested a complete game...and if you wanted to throw in a shutout they, as well as all of us, wouldn't mind that either!

Thanks for your help!

And maybe that explains why Mez didn't hit for Corky last night, instead using Soto. I thought that was odd at the time.

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully it really is a "slight" strain and not something more serious.

An injury to Mesoraco may explain a few things. His offense has been very poor over the last month. Hanigan, without power, has picked things up a bit.

With full realization that noone should give a s++t about two requests I'd make:

1. This is a seriously big boy kind of game. Can we be big boys, with big bats, and win this? The follow on reverberations could be kind of significant as we prepare to hold our own versus LA and then bulldoze the laggard teams.

2. JV, can you be tonight's hero? I, and undoubtedly many others, would really, really appreciate that. That 0 for 7 is forgiven and forgotten. Win this for us, ok?

Tony with two nice first outs.

It would be hard to find an atbat as bad as the one Frazier just had. After three straight walks, he chased a pitch in the dirt and then struck out on a fastball eye level.

The first pitch was belt high right down the middle. I have no complaints with him swinging there.

Let it go. If Todd wants to be a regular next year, let him earn it from the bench. Via performance.

I wouldn't dump the guy, but the Reds can't risk getting so little offense from a corner infielder. He's pretty versatile, let Todd be the primary righty hitter off the bench next year and fill in at third, first, left. Short and second in a crisis.

The Reds need to add offense on the left side of the infield and behind the plate. Their catching offensive numbers are just horrible. Too much pressure on a few hitters.

Wonder if Votto is too consumed with the "wait it out" philosophy, too involved with walks. Wonder if he would do better being a little more aggressive at the plate and not worrying so much about potentially swinging at a ball.

He just seems to be thinking too much up there. See the ball, hit the ball.

Then, when he is in a better groove, he can start getting super selective again.

Just a theory.

Take all of your team's problems and blame it on their best player. It's been happening for years and years. Same thing happens with The Bengals, too.

Around here we also tend to blame the weakest guy on the bench even if he never gets into the game. Like, it's all Izturis' fault. Or Wilson Valdez. Or Juan Castro.

Votto's in a slump, he'll get over it. Probably like any other slumping hitter, he's pressing. Just needs to relax and play his game.

For the longest time, Cincinnati's best player generally was no superstar.

And the Bengals? Huh? Whom are you referencing? Palmer? Johnson?

And the whole "take all your team's problems and blame them on their best player" is a complete red herring. My complaints about Votto are limited to Votto. Not blaming him for our injuries or lack of a respectable bench.

Von Oelhoffen ruined him. To this day he is a shell of his former self. And the defense did not suck out loud during Carson's prime as a Bengal.

We didn't win last night, but in a way we did....it's forcing Matheny to keep Lynn in longer than he normally would.

St Louis is going to have to go to the pen again tonight and then they'll have the series against the Pirates. Could come into play in that series.

Can only hold Carpenter down for so long, apparently.

4-2 now on a wild pitch.

I like Bryan Price. Great communicator.

Don't get me started.

8 out of 10 houses in the neighborhood get a new roof from hail and wind damage and pay just a $200-500 deductible.

Roy's house has titanium shingles and no storm damage so I foot the entire $9k bill.

Bah.

sorry bout that

Cingrani all of a sudden losing it. 4 pitch walk to Holliday. Two on, one out.

Christiani and Duke warming up, apparently the B Squad will have to do tonight.

Cingrani out, unknown which reliever will be in to face Beltran. Either way, it's a daunting task.

Small things matter and the Reds don't really do them well. Choo has to cut that ball off or simply make a better play. That ball should not have been a triple.

Changes the whole dynamics of the inning.

Duke and Christiani were warming. I guess they were two guys not used (or lightly used) yesterday.

Tough situation for those two.

I feel that this is going to be the Reds team we see for the rest of the season.

Starters who lose it after 5 innings? I hope not

16 inning game last night. Not a lot of choices.

Do double plays count as small things? Their fundamentals were alright on that play.
