I understand it, but I don't like moving Bruce from the 4 hole. He was getting on a roll...you don't mess with that.

I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that Jay is 0 for 8 with 5 Ks against Liriano.

Thank you. I figured there HAD to be a rational argument for the switch.

I think I'm more stoked for this game (on MLB network so TV versus online) than any other since we came back to CIN from SFO up 2-0 in the 2012 LDS.

If we win, we'll be tied with the Bucs in WC Slot #1 just 1.5 or .5 games behind STL (if they win or lose theirs vs the Crew).

If we win, tomorrow night's game, which I'll be watching at PNC, will be an even bigger deal.

If we win, there's a chance, however lower the probability, that an amazing weekend, thanks to MIL, could have us in first by Sunday, the final game in the series we'll also be in attendance for.

Finally, if the Cards do hold on for the division, the Liriano/Latos matchup tonight is likely a WC playoff preview.

What a game--CANNOT wait for first pitch in this one!

Charles--definitely post or PM me any tips for how to will these guys to victory in road cities and I'll embrace 'em all for PNC tomorrow and Sunday!

Fear not, Reds fans! Tonight, while I was walking my dog on the mean streets of Friendship, Pittsburgh, just before the game, the universe sent a sign. My dog and I go for good walks, oh, maybe 20 times a week. Tonight, I crossed the street at a spot where I don't normally, and on the opposite sidewalk immediately felt something weird under my feet, something I had never encountered before on any walk. I looked down and saw a sidewalk full of these:

Buckeyes! The hell is a nice Ohio buckeye doing in my Pennsylvania hood? It's a sign, right? Let us not forget where the rally onion was discovered! IT'S A SIGN. Maybe

Unless I am reading incorrectly, always a possibility, lefties are hitting Liriano this year to the tune of a .319 OPS. OPS+ against lefties is, well, 0.

So it might behoove the Reds righty hitters to have a good night. Phillips and Ludwick with a good start but all of them might want to help out in this one.

Untrue. Several WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam era Aces got into all kinds of trouble on the ground and otherwise.

I'm the opposite. Usually I don't care about the Reds hacking at the first pitch but tonight I'm having visions of a sub 100 pitch CG for Liriano the way the Reds are just grounding out on the first pitch or striking out on three.

In the first inning I wish they would have been more patient I think it took him awhile to really find it but at this point he is locked in. Votto and Bruce are getting first pitch fastballs away to start every AB. Jump all over it try sending it to LF.

I'm in the seeming minority of posters here in believing this game, with the 3-run differential, is still very winnable.

But Latos is making me very nervous. He has given up a couple bad but not disastrous innings. One more like that without some big response from our lineup and, in aggregate, a disaster (for this game) starts brewing.
