Good to see Mes back in there. Wish Bruce would be in the 4 spot. Ludwick's swing is still off. He had a number of meatballs to hit off Harang last night and was late on every one of them.

Jonathan Niese is a pretty good lefty who this year has been tougher against lefties than righties. Over this career, the gap is narrower, still better against lefties.

This year he has had trouble away from Citifield (.846 away OPS against) and has not had a good September so far in four outings.

Reds have very few at bats against him, Phillips with 16 official at bats and a 1.188 OPS. Votto .792 OPS in 12 at bats (four walks), Bruce .833 in 10. Reds hitters combined have an .812 OPS against him, including five homers, in a total of 80 official at bats (excludes pitchers).

Would love to see ludwick get a few big hits and some positive momentum before the playoffs start. His bat is needed in our lineup...even if he doesn't have all of his power back.

why cant Dusty say "Hey Ryan,, your not getting it done, Billy is playing" HMM?? is that so hard to do or hurting his feelings?

Because Ludwick is a power hitter who adds a lot if he hits.

He's missed time and the Reds want to give him a chance to get going. Especially against a lefty.

Tomorrow Lud will sit. This will cause 350 posts on RedsZone. But Dusty usually rests Ludwick every series and did most of last season too.

It's just absurd to allow fielders to prevent access before they have the ball.

Probably didn't matter there.

Once Cueto proved himself healthy, that writing was on the wall. He'll still likely make the team as the long guy. Ondrusek won't.

I'd rather have Ondrusek, actually, especially since his splitter has been very good his last two appearances.

So you go from saying Leake sucks tonight, to this?
Yup, pretty linear progression. I said he kinda sucks when he gave up that double, but before that HR it had the making of a pretty typical Leake game. Give up early runs (which kinda sucks), everyone calls for his head, and then he pitches 5-6 innings of shutout ball. Unfortunately the HR put an end to that.

A passed ball is an error. Not *technically* an error, but it's an error. It's most certainly not Duke's fault Mesoraco missed it.

He gave up a very weak infield hit and walked a guy with a base open while striking out two. I'll take that inning every time because most of the time, those grounders don't go for hits.

Not on the decision to pitch him. Probably a very obvious thing to say but most any player who makes it to the majors has some talent. So, even the ones who don't stick will have good moments or even days. Duke is a guy like that. He's bad most of the time. Duke has, for his entire career, induced a lot of double plays. With 1 out and a chance at a double play, it was worth the risk facing Wright with the left-hander on deck. It was absolutely the right call IMHO.
