OK...I'll start it. This Cardinal shellacking may never be over 'tho! Strasberg and Co. were awesome in this game.

nice stretch by Votto to save a throwing error on a tough dribble -- Frazier owes one -- no score going to bottom of 1st

error on me -- top of 2nd

No Hamilton, but Cueto looks sharp.

Votto draws a walk and the Angel color guy questions his approach.

Nice catch by the Angels left-fielder. I'd love to see the new fielding stats on that catch. It looked like the optimal path and it was about as far as he could lay out...not sure about the jump he got.

Is it just me or is Johnny's twist a little less pronounced than before? He doesn't seem to be turning as far as I recall.

He wants Votto to be more aggressive "sometimes." Ah, that vague "sometimes" when you can make any argument you want without ever backing it up with specific instances when he should have swung outside the zone instead of taking a walk.

Cueto is throwing really well. Is he gonna get the Opening Day call?

Johnny looking quite sharp. 1 hit, 0 runs, 2 k's, 0 bb's after 3 full.

If everybody's healthy...probably. There's an argument to be made for Latos & Homer too...but just a gut feeling tells me it'll be Johnny.

The rotation is being set up currently for him to be opening day starter. But that could change.

Mid-season form for Votto there. Looked really locked in. (9 pitch BB btw)

*sigh* Brain fart by Votto. Soft fly to short off of Frazier's knuckles...Votto 3/4's of the way to 2nd. DP

Risky, but a truly great play...best I've seen this spring. (but I don't even know the mans name)That was JB Shuck, an AL ROY candidate last year. I think the Angels are playing with three center fielders...these guys can cover some ground.

Random thought: I miss the color diversity of unis from the 70s/80s. Seems like about 3/4 of the league wears red now. (And, ironically, the Reds wearing black.) They come back from commercials and I forget for a second which team they're showing.

Miss the old maroon the Phillies wore, the burgundy and blue the Angels used to have.

I'll take it you haven't seen Josh Reddick (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/as-josh-reddick-astounds-with-two-dazzling-catches-to-rob-giants-michael-morse?ymd=20140226&content_id=68383732&vkey=news_mlb) then.

I know Heisey's been hitting this spring, but he gets up with two men on and two outs.

Swing. Swing. Easy fly out.

Once in awhile, take a pitch Chris.

Reviewing the play at 2nd. This should be quick...clearly out. 1-0 Angels though regardless.

What the hell?!? If you're going to do reviews you've got to get it RIGHT! He was clearly tagged on the knee well before he touched the bag. Pitiful. I hope they sort this out before the start of the season.

So the replay is slow and just as incorrect as the call made in real time? Sounds promising.

Looks like it's going to be like the NFL. Instant replay meaningless if they can't get the call right.

How do you even go about not getting it right when you're watching a black and white tag in slow motion? And what is there to talk about for five minutes? That was gross and I didn't like it at all.

I'm wondering if the umpire didn't intentionally get that call wrong (it was pretty clear he was out) just so they could go through the motions of the instant replay. And then the replay umpire messed it up by saying he got the call right.

What did you suspect in the age of Budd Lite? I predict it will be like NCAA buckets. They'll take 10 minutes to decide if there should be 1.5 or 1.6 seconds left in a blowout, and then get it wrong.

I just wasn't made for these times.

Word on the internets is that the umps didn't have access to the angle shown on tv.

According to Marty and Thom, the umps didn't have access to the CF camera, which was the one angle that showed the tag. The umps after game said that if they had seen that view, they would have called him out.

In the regular season, the umps would have 12 camera angles. Today, they had three.

Like Selig, I'm in favor of anything that will make the games longer. Wondering how long it will take them to view 12 camera angles.

_Sir_Charles_
03-10-2014, 07:10 AM
Because it's spring, the umpires had just four angles -- all from static cameras in the ballpark without zoom capabilities -- available to make the call. The fifth angle, which was from the Angels' broadcast, was not available at the time of the call, but came in later and showed the play was called incorrectly.

Fyi, they're averaging 4.5 runs a game thus far. It's been up and down for sure, but the pitching isn't there yet either. If we average 4 runs a game during the regular season, I like our chances...A LOT!
