Joe Dunand a 3B HS Prep player from Miami Gulliver just hit 8 consecutive homers in the Horizon National HS Tournament in Scottsdale Az. He is committed to NC for the upcoming 2015 collegiate season. The 8 straight homers breaks the old prep record of 6. His uncle is ARod. The pedigree alone will get him some attention but he can hit. BTW, yes, the "he may be better" is pure hyperbole!!

I wonder if he went snooping around his uncle's medicine cabinet?

I'm kidding, not trying to derail the thread.

Say what you will about ARod's PED usage, career decline, and general ******baggery, but he was among the best prospects in the history of MLB. Watching him absolutely rake his way to from single-A to the majors as an 18 year old and then win a batting title and lead the league in runs scored, doubles and total bases as a 20 year old was amazing. He was the Mike Trout of the mid-1990s, a once-in-a-generation talent. The odds of his nephew being even remotely close to as good as he was are slim and none, and slim just left town.

It's exactly that bloodline, though, that may have Dunand overrated by scouts. Pedigree counts. Even when the star in a family is unmatchable, family (sons, brothers, nephews) has been a pretty fair indicator of a quality player. Also I did say it was pure hyperbole just for the sake of the thread headline. I might point out that Dunand actually has better HS stats than his famous uncle, not that it means all that much really. The fact he plays 3B in HS instead of SS likely means he is not as athletic. Sounds like a pure power prospect though. I'll just be curious where he goes in June's draft and whether he skips college if he goes high enough.

The thread title leaves the question wide open. Better than what? My thoughts:

ARod's nephew may be better than Dwight Gooden's nephew.

ARod's nephew may be better than regular Dr. Pepper.

ARod's nephew may be better than Ezra.
