I still think he's the funniest of the late night hosts, which probably has something to do with watching him so much back in the 90s. I wonder if the younger crowd feels the same way.

the only thing I worry about with Dave's retirement is how it will affect the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

having back watched years of his shows over the last decade, he was far better before his heart troubles. after that, he usually seemed to want to be somewhere else after the monologue and opening bit.

I watch him regularly, and have to admit, he kinda retired over a decade ago. Still, he was miles funnier and more entertaining than Jay Leno.

so is the train wreck that was the Magic Hour with Magic Johnson.

Not looking forward to a Fallon like guy, ugh.

this is where I would normally support Craig Ferguson, but I think the lack of structure I enjoy about his show would suffer so much from the earlier timelslot and older audience as to make him into a slightly edgier Carson Daily (who I still have no idea how he ever got onto TV).

I've been a fan since the eighties, although I can't stay up late enough to watch anymore.

While I haven't watched his show in years, he was always my favorite late night host. I've seen this video 4 or 5 times, and it never fails to make me laugh. I think it really shows his sense of humor.

That came together awfully fast.

Colbert has been in the on deck circle for about 3 years. It was just a matter of when Dave wanted to walk away.

Great choice. He's not the same old host.

Another middle aged, white guy. Hooray

(Although for Les Moonves, this is like hiring Kat Williams)

Who hosts a completely different type of show.

Who hosts a completely different type of show.

He might. I have no idea what his show will look like. I don't know enough about his actual personality.

What I meant was that the show he hosts now is completely different. He may end up fit into the mold; who knows? Odds are that he'll be somewhat fresh, though.

Reports are coming in that it was first offered to Craig Ferguson, who turned it down. This is in conflict with what CBS officially said, who said his show was too narrow for that time slot. But now it seems he had a right of first refusal in his contract. The same reports are guessing that Ferguson will be quitting the talk show game next year to get back into acting, which is probably why he turned it down. Same reports are saying the next choice was Jon Stewart, who also turned it down.
