I've been over on the Cardinals forum talking about Cingrani and they are stunned that he is 24. The seventh time I mentioned it, I had an admin make me a moderator so that I could edit others' posts to include Cingrani's age and also create my own Cingrani subforum. They say it has enhanced their enjoyment of the games.

Most people assume rookies and second year players are in their mid to late 40s. Hearing that a young pitcher is 22, 23 or 24 can be defamiliarizing. I have to go now, the Cardinals forum is asking me to tell them about Cingrani's age last year.

I can't even...... STOP MAKING OUTS ON PURPOSE!

I like aggressiveness, but the lure of small ball is the fetishization of speed and "skill" over discipline and sound strategy. I thought Price was going to be a bit more new school; I'm starting to think he's more old, old school, just with a 21st century vocabulary.

Rundowns require one throw. You run at the player, force him back to the base he came from and then throw when he's close to the fielder. A second throw means a broken rundown.

Of course...it could never, ever be Joey Votto's blunder, just blame it BP, when in doubt.

And with the inability for this lineup to score runs on a daily basis, I'm not sure bunting a guy over there is a bad idea. Otherwise they're waiting for someone to hit a HR. (namely Bruce or Frazier, who can't do it every night)

He's roughly the same, offensively, as Orlando Cabrera was during his single season with the Reds -- the difference of course being Cabrera was 35 and on the downslide of his career and Cozart is (allegedly) in age-prime years.

He's roughly the same, offensively, as Orlando Cabrera was during his single season with the Reds -- the difference of course being Cabrera was 35 and on the downslide of his career and Cozart is (allegedly) in age-prime years.
Forget the fact that Cabrera was a leader on the field and off of it. I remember when he got up in Phillips face after BP was picked off of 2nd. Can you see anyone doing that now? Cozart sure wouldn't. We are going to do the same thing with Cozart that we did with Stubbs. Ride him til the fan base boos him out of Cincinnati.

3rd inning bunt by Phillips to score Pena and advance Cingrani: RE increased by 0.17 runs.

Oh wait, that 3rd inning bunt didn't happen. He grounded in to a double play instead. RE decreased by 1.14 runs.

If you saw the A's game with the ump called up to replace one who had to have surgery you can understand better how Bucknor has a job. Bucknor is the ump equivilent of a guy who hits .250/.300/.350. I'm going to comment on this just once. Cozart is a better hitter than Pena. He's not showing it right now, but anybody who's been in a slump before knows it's in his head at this point. At the beginning of a season it's even tougher. Moving him at this point only highlights his slump even more. Pena's had a few good ab's the past couple days, but he's FAR from impressive. Zack will turn it around. But the only way to get out of a slump is to swing your way out of it.
