Puzzling line-up with Ludwick 0 for his last 10 and being a Sunday. I expected some people to take a rest day today. (Bruce or Ludwick at least)

Dusty would have rested some guys. Dusty's philosophy apparently was to have rest days pre-arranged, regardless of the opposing pitcher. Sundays in particular.

Price, I think, is focused today on a lefty pitcher who has been a long reliever. He's trying to get his righty bats going. So he's leaving his starting players in there. He's moved Frazier to cleanup because of the lefty pitcher. Bruce to fifth.

I like Price's approach. One thing that frustrated me with Baker was he sometimes would rest guys against good pitching matchups for them. So, for example, he might play Bruce against a lefty and rest him against a righty.

But I must say Dusty was often proven correct, it often worked out fine. It might be better just to give a guy "next Sunday off" and not worry too much about the matchups.

Hope it works out today. I'm confident, Reds are good at salvaging games in lost series to avoid being swept.

I like Price's willingness to mix things up and go unconventional at times. I never thought I'd see Joey hitting in the 2 hole again.

Not sure if batting Phillips after him is the way to go, but at least there's some mixing it up.

Heisey should be in CF against the LHP. Hamilton needs to be limited to RHP so he hits lefty and stands a step closer to 1B. His OBP as a minor leaguer has been higher against RHP. Short of sending him to AAA, it's the best way to incur the least damage from his outs in the line-up. He should probably hit 9th with the pitcher eighth.

Agree. Not ready to bench him or send to AAA, but limit his games and at bats. Would be a good day to start Heisey against the LHP

Because price is making drastic changes to the lineup and it seems like desperation moves. Has nothing to do with the numbers.

I don't think it is all that drastic. The problem is outside of Rocco no one in this lineup is meeting or exceeding expectations. Until the bats come around, which they will, nothing Price can do is going to be really drastic.

It is not good to hit Votto and Bruce together against lefties. I am aware of nobody who wants them hitting back to back against lefties. The pitcher today is a lefty.

Against righties, a different issue. Against lefties, no issue.

2 batters in..... Hamilton swings at a ball at his shoulders almost on 2-1. Votto was swinging defensively and doing his check swing then kinda swinging but not really sure I want to swing.

Some of the worst cripple hitters I have seen ..... 2-1, 2-0.... they look more like they are trying to protect the plate or swing at balls... behind the count they have a hard time just protecting the plate.

2 batters in... and I am already frustrated.

Cozart also out at the plate. You know like all those times we have seen a team get two runners thrown out at the plate on the same play.

Cingrani rounded first like he had no idea what was going on. He got in a rundown and they threw home to get Cozart to complete the double play.

Not Cozarts fault for being thrown out at home. Once Cingrani gets hung up he has to try to score because Cingrani will be the 3rd out of the inning. Fault Mes and Smith for going on contact with the infield in, and fault Cingrani for getting hung up.

Kidding. I'm loving this. 4-8 really isn't that bad. If the team had a 4-8 stretch midway through the season we'd think nothing of it. But because we're starting the season 4-8 (if we win today) it just feels a lot worse.

This team's quality pitching will keep us in almost every game. Hopefully the offense comes around. Wow has Mez been a huge boost.

Personally, I'd like it if Phillips simply showed him the proper form of getting down on one knee to the side to make SURE that ball can't get through. Ole' ain't gonna work. Brandon's the only one I see doing it the fundamental way. It may not be slick looking, but its the purest form to get it done.

It's not like Votto doesn't know HOW to do it. It's lazy the way he's been doing it. I love Votto, but you can't deny it that those types of plays are simply lazy.
