I'm yet to feel confident with Simon on the mound. He's proved me wrong twice already though. I know its still April, but lets not underestimate the importance of this series. I've been a leader on the lets not panic train, but for a team that has struggled out of the gate losing 2 out of 3 to a very bad Cubs team would become very alarming.

What you guys need is a Cubbie sweep. But that won't be easy. Like the Reds, the Cubs have lost a lot of 1 run games. I would not throw anything to Rizzo. He's in a zone right now.

It's a mix of a residential district and a lot of bars. It's fine as far as safety goes. It's like someone dropped a baseball stadium in the middle of a neighborhood. Parking is scarce and what there is is expensive but the El stops about a block from the stadium.

I can't stand horrible Defense at important Defensive positions, and Choo was the worst CF in all of baseball. You'll not get any Hamilton bashing from me. I love that he's on the team. I'd rather have him splitting time in CF with Heisey, but I'm still glad that he's here over Choo.

Iīll take Choo gladly back on this team (not for the money he got obviously). Hamilton is not a great choice to hit leadoff! so far heīs not even a good choice to start (I still give him some time but I rather see him hit at the end of the lineup)

choo could start at center, play leftfield or right if ludwick/bruce need some rest ... give choo some time off against lhp with heisey/schumaker playing his position
this would help the reds more than the "bad" defence from choo cost them

The problem with that is he would never play anything but Center and defend it every day while stunting the growth of Hamilton at the same time. Hamilton is going to have to go through his first two seasons and get those at-bats out of the way. No better time to start than now.

Not saying that two years of plate appearances is going to turn him into a .340+ OBP guy, but he's certainly not going to get there without those PA's first. A .340+ OBP should make him an All-Star, if only because he would end up swiping 100+ SB's and score 120+ runs.

I think this team can afford right now to let Hamilton improve as good advances should come this season from Mesoraco, Frazier, Ludwick (can't help but be better), Heisey and Phillips, along with the great Starting Pitching we have. Choo had the ability to double the number of runs given up by the team on one play in a game from 1 to 2, or 2 to 4.

Phillips back still effecting him in his second at-bat.

Knew that low-and-away breaking ball was coming after seeing Phillips stretching his back on the last swing. BP never had a chance there.

Kingspoint
04-18-2014, 03:12 PM
Hamilton will probably struggle all season to maintain a .300 OBP, but he will have had an impact on a number of games. Maybe in September he can be the spark that he was last September for the team.

I imagine by mid-June, it will have been decided to not have him playing 80% of the time, and more opportunities to start in Center will be given to more players.

I like it, because it's like being at the game. I don't have to listen to a bunch of doo-doo. But, I know what you mean. Good broadcasters enhance the experience. Unfortunately, so many teams don't seem to care. They care more about whether or not they have a 'company man' promoting their cause.

When's Schumacker due back?
Does not sound imminent but is progressing, from 3 days ago:

CINCINNATI -- On the disabled list with a dislocated left shoulder, utility player Skip Schumaker made some progress on Monday, when he was able to do some throwing and hit off of a tee.

"We're optimistic that, in relatively short order, he'll be able to get into game action," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Schumaker, who was injured during a March 21 diving catch attempt, throws right-handed but had discomfort in his left shoulder in earlier attempts to throw. That is no longer an issue.

"That left arm has to come up. It has to establish height and closure to stabilize and really allow him to extend and throw through the ball," Price said. "It's a very important piece of the throwing mechanics, even though he's a right-handed thrower. That used to hinder him."

Schumaker's injury was a major hit, as he appeared to be our #1 Bench player, which is a very important role on any team. (I know,...Mr. Obvious, but it's just one more hit that we took on the injury front, that if we can get to 12-12 through 24 games, it will be a great first 24.)

Iīm not calling him a failure... itīs way to early! but other people watch one good game from him with stolen basis and great baserunning and ignore the fact that he doesnīt get on base 78% of the time...

he has the same amount of games as last year (one game more), most people who had no problems with the small sample size last year have now a problem with the small sample size this year...

Oh, yeah. The latter 4 are in front of the main gate on Crosley Terrace. Bench's is between the gift shop and the HOF & Museum and Morgans is right as you get to the stadium on the intersection of Joe Nuxhall Way and Pete Rose Way. IIRC, they are supposed to have statues of all the Great 8 including Pete in the future. Bench and Morgan insisted.

Never liked the walk to a weak 8th hitter to get to the pitcher, especially when the pitcher is a decent hitter. Odds are so close that they will make an out, and if you don't walk the 8th hitter, you have the pitcher leading off the next inning. Still, it worked out.

He's an exciting player. People can't help but get excited when he does something good. Doesn't mean we're calling him even an average player.
Not sure we really need a word of caution every time we get excited about him either.
Nothing wrong with enjoying a game , one at bat at a time and not worrying about stats.
People would've gotten excited if Votto or Frasier had driven in the run too, right? But there wouldn't have been any buzzkill speech after that..

Let's see how many runs Billy scores this year before bemoaning his sub-par OBP.
Plus, right now, he's an investment. I think that's what people lose sight of.
Not singling you out, but people want to move him to #8 or #9 or reduce his playing time for short term gain.
The hope is, you play him just about every day this season, and by the time the playoffs start, he will show improvement. And then maybe he improves even more in 2015.
I know that's obvious, but it just seems there's a predictable lack of patience.

Donruss, Topps, and Fleer really flooded the market after '87. (Fleer and Donruss from '81-'84, too) The price guide owners all met in Hawaii in 1987 and decided to artificially inflate the values of the cards to keep the industry going, but that didn't last too long. So, then the card manufacturers started coming up with "specialty" cards, but it was still a market that was artificially created. It was a fun industry for a while, but like anything else, it ran it's course.
