When Cozart goes 3 for 4....no chance I sit him in the second game. He's feeling it today...let him build the confidence.

Not a fan of sitting Cozart. Heisey and Bernadina being in the lineup at the same time doesn't exactly drum up excitement, either.

Oh well. We've won games with worse lineups.

With Francis on the mound and THAT lineup, I don't like our chances here. Then again, we are playing the Padres and they can't hit to save their lives so we just might leg this out.

Price seems to love to spread playing time around for the lesser players. Sometimes it's debatable.

Facing three righty pitchers with no Bruce -- Schumaker only plays once. Not that Skip is a Hall of Famer but against the righties seems questionable to sit him so much.

Maybe it will work out.

I'd flip Heisey and Bernadina. The one thing Bernadina has showed is that he can take a walk. Move Heisey down in the order as the one thing he has shown is he can't take a walk.

Price isn't near the saber guy I thought he would be. Somewhat disappointed in that.

I understand we gotta give guys a breather. But do we have to do them all at the same time?

Hamilton, Votto, Phillips & Frazier aren't getting a breather. Billy, Brandon, & Zack are feeling it....ride 'em.

Besides, they just had 3 off days in like a week and a half. They should be good to go. (no games on the 5th, 8th or 12th)

KYExtemper

Noticed from the Padres lineup that they aren't using Seth Smith either, so there goes their most dangerous hitter.

Sparky started Plummer 45 times and Rettenmund 44 times in 1975. You gotta use your whole roster. It's not all about rest either. You gotta get guys reps so they are ready if needed.

I love when he contradicts his own complaints.

I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face, if you get a good pitch to hit early in the count, you don't let it go by. The 'early in the count' dogma flies in the face of going up to the plate to, ideally, hit the ball.

Who cares if someone has control issues. Does that mean you're supposed to let strikes go right down the middle? Makes absolutely no sense. He's absolutely not contradicting himself... they're two very distinct things.

_Sir_Charles_
05-15-2014, 07:18 PM

It's no big deal Roy. My main question was what was his velocity when he was with the Cubs? I don't remember him being much more than 90. Plus or minus a couple mph. But I could easily be remembering incorrectly.

IMO though, as long as he's locating his breaking balls...he can top out at 85 for all I care. The FB is just to keep guys honest for him.

Stellar bullpen as usual. Three innings, allowing four hits and three runs, two home runs, and three walks. It's not only the hitting that's below expectations on this club. And, to be honest, waving the white flag with the lineup seemed to affect everyone's play. Brutal to watch.

The Reds should have UDF deliver Jack'd up Java to the dugout between innings.

This lineup just didn't make any sense to me. The Heisey sub I can understand, but benching Cozart, who had a hot first game was dumb, and I guess Price wanted to let Barnhart have another MLB game before he's sent down when Rocco comes up tomorrow (?), but if Rocco is coming, Pena won't be playing in that game anyway so it's not like he needed a rest. As far as Bernadina, Skip should've been in that slot since Bernadina can't hit.

Just infuriating to wave the white flag before the first pitch IMO.

Come on. Look at that bench again. Or should I say what that bench was supposed to be. Our bench is a strength...problem is that most of those guys are STARTING due to injuries. Shumaker, Pena, Heisey, Santiago, Hannahan is supposed to be our bench. Nothing wrong with that. Good balance with lefties/righties, good balance with power/avg and good balance with hitters/defenders.
