Cardinals started their run last week...having now won three in a row and eight of ten.

REDS began this week taking two of three.

St. Louis has continued to dominate the REDS for yet another season so far this year.

It's time to change that with a series win this weekend at the GAB. Bruce and Lutz should make a difference physically and emotionally.

The REDS are next to last in home attendance in the National League. I hope the fans come out and give the Cardinals all they got.

Our worst Starting Pitcher on the year is going in Game 1 to set the tone for the series. Time to turn your season around Homer. Let's Go!

Something to look for tonight,

• Bruce is one home run shy of 100 at Great American Ball Park. Adam Dunn is the all-time leader with 126.

Of course he's full of energy. His last name is Lutz (light in Spanish, though spelled Luz). Plus, Lutz is probably the hardest jump in figure-skating. (Went to Stars on Ice last Saturday....sat in the front row....simply amazing.)

It was almost all Americans. The Gold Medal Pairs skaters (Meryl Davis and Charlie White), Bronze Medalist Ashley Wagner, Bronze Medalist Gracie Gold, Bronze Medalist Jeremy Abbott, U.S. Champion Marai Nagasu, U.S. Champion Ryan Bradley, U.S. Junior Champion Max Aaron, U.S. Silver Medalist Polina Edmunds (she's looks really tall (but she's not) and thin...looks graceful on the ice), and others. The most outstanding performance for me was the solo from World Junior Champion Josh Farris.

They were all outstanding. Our 9-year old daughter really loved it all.

I don't understand why someone would give up a 2nd out just to move a runner from 2nd to 3rd, even if it is a Catcher running and a Pitcher hitting. Even a pitcher is going to get a hit one out of ten times or less. How often is a passed ball or wild pitch going to happen? A lot less often than a pitcher getting a hit.

Pretty sure Bruce scores on that, but I understand the decision given the circumstances. Need to bring him in now though.

He would have scored only because the throw was so poor.

Bruce got a poor jump as he hesitated slightly on a hard hit ball.

He wasn't even at third when Bourgous picked up the ball. A good throw had him out by 5 feet.

Marty and JK have been having a running conversation about the "quality start" stat tonight. Kinda interesting. Both think it probably should be more like 2 or less earned runs over 7 than the current 3 and 6. Tend to agree. I like the idea of an high quality start, being 2 runs, 7IP, and a regular quality start staying at 3 runs, 6 IP. You can even create the low quality start, 4 runs, 6 IP. I think if you had those three set up, and you could get a solid idea of how a pitcher pitched during a season.

It gets really dicey here for REDS' pitchers in the 6th and 7th innings. Opposing hitters are OPS'ing higher in these innings than any other inning. Of course, it's when they see the Starter the third time around and our worst Relievers come in for relief. It's probably true for most teams, but for the REDS, the OPS in these innings is more than 150 points higher than the 8th and 9th innings.

I think this was simply based on the fact that Hamilton was AB next and the number of infield singles he gets. It actually brought the infield in all around to prevent that. I don't think they played the odds, but I also think it's the only time I've seen them do that.

Homer is an ACE in the waiting. He's close...very, very close to being a dominant pitcher. It's just mental. This is a mental hurdle he has to learn to overcome, and if you pull him, he's not going to get either the confidence or the experience of having succeeded through it.
