This game doesn't bode well for the Reds.

Wainwright has been dealing, and Leake doesn't match up well against the Cards. He's best letting hitters get themselves out, and the Cards don't get themselves out.

Based on what? What specific reason(s) doesn't he match up well? Not picking on you, but there's a tendency on message boards to make these generic statements without any real rhyme or reason to them.

This replay system is about as absurd as the Reds' offense.

Manager starts the process with a phony argument. No reason to argue, the ump doesn't make the final decision.

Then we have the signal from the replay coach.

Then we have the umps stand around. But they aren't doing anything. They have no power. Just standing there waiting for some guy to make the decision from an office.

In the NFL, the ref can use multiple angles to put together evidence from each angle to get the call right. MLB doesn't have that. MLB needs that, so even if there isn't a shot of a tag before the foot hits the base, the ump can use logic to deduce from the multiple angles that a tag was made before the foot hit the base.

That's what happened here.

That was in 2012, before he hurt his shoulder. In 2013, his slash line was .240/.293/.326 with two homeruns in 140 PA. This year he's been a skosh better. He's toast.

It's all on the pitcher. Frazier is merely a player on the stage. Peralta and Wong were playing kings in the corner...it's fortunate that Wainright forced TF to hit it right at Peralta.

Nobody should hate any ballplayer because of performance.

Problem with Ludwick in LF is that it's an offensive position, he's in there for offense, the team needs the offense, and he's not supplying it. You don't have the Cozart argument that, well, he's a great defensive shortstop.

As for next year, keep in mind the Reds have an option for a $9 million contract. The kicker is that Ludwick gets a $4.5 million buy out if they drop him. Will the Reds pay $4.5 million for Ludwick to go elsewhere? If he has a good second half I wouldn't be shocked if he came back.

Don't really get the hatred for Ludwick. This is almost certainly his last year in Cincy and I get being mad at the front office for not making a move last season when he went dow. Ludwick's a good guy who can still contribute, just not as much as we'd need him to ever since that major injury which was a total freak thing. Stuff happens.

Walt could've gotten Ichooruz if not for the money sunk into Ludwick or so the narrative goes.

I don't "hate" Ludwick, I just think he's terrible. More specifically, I thought it was a bad idea to bring him back at a premium salary on a multi-year deal in 2012, even prior to the injury. After the injury, the team (despite clear offensive deficiencies) elected to wait for him to return instead of making any attempts whatsoever to shore up LF and when he returned he was not even close to game ready (and decided to open his mouth about the fans, too, which, you know, go jump in a lake, pal). So basically the club has been hamstrung by his salary and his awful production from doing anything to improve the one spot in the lineup that ought to be a no-brainer to improve.

It's one thing to have an offensive black hole like Cozart at a premium defensive position, it's quite another thing to send a OBP-deficient player with no power to play left every day. It becomes even more inexcusable to do so in this run-scoring environment with this generally subpar offense.

Obviously the early returns aren't strong but it's still just been 75 games he's been back since August 2013, not quite half a season in all. Not really expecting a big turnaround, but he did heat up in 2012 when the calendar flipped to June.
