Is he hurt? Is he in line for a call-up?

Even though he had given up some runs (2 earned and 2 unearned in 3 innings... mostly on singles), I note that he was allowed to bat in the bottom of the 3rd. He walked and would have run the bases. But then they double switched and didn't let him pitch in the fourth:

THREW not through. My bad. Don't make an embarrassing typo in a thread title because you can't change it

You used to be able to change a thread title by single clicking on it on the forum menu screen.

You still should be able to, or you can double click around the thread title on the thread listings screen. I went ahead and edited this one.

I answered my own question. He had a stiff neck. Deshields let him pitch anyway, and he was starting to alter his mechanics so they took him out:

Shouldn't have pitched at all. Fernandez's UCL tear stemmed from a sore leg after getting hit by a liner. If one part of your body is injured it weakens the whole chain. Neck is close to the shoulder.

Wow. Way to go Deshields, lets start the best prospect by far in the organization while he is hurt resulting in him changing his mechanics for a meaningless minor league game.

Hooray random nobody managers having this kind of effect on elite arms!

This seems like a bit of a stretch. Many a pitcher works through some aches and pains and there's no problem. The manager pulled him, it would seem, as soon as they saw it was effecting his pitching.

BTW, housekeeping question - why isn't this thread in the Minor League forum?

Good question. I would guess because of The Engineer's status as the best prospect in the organization. It should be in the MiLB forum though, for sure.
