The Midwest League announced their picks for the 2014 ASG.

Ismael Guillon
Nick Travieso
Carlton Daal

Congrats!

PS It is hard to believe that Sebastian Elizalde was left off. He is leading the Midwest League in OPS at .999.

LOL, I get the feeling Elizalde could hold his own on the Reds. Seems like a very professional hitter. I guess the Midwest League doesn't see it that way.

Lively will be starting for the California League all-stars. Winker and Waldrop also made the team.

Carlos Gonzalez, the Bakersfield closer, did not: 26.1 IP, 14 H, 0 R, 7 BB, 26 K, 12 Sv. ERA 0.00. WHIP 0.80.

Nor did Marquez Smith, who leads the league in RBIs (54) and is 3rd in OPS (.968).

Is it maybe because he is a little older and already played in the Mexican league? He should probably be at either High A or AA immediately.

Rather remarkably, I think, this is the fourth different minor league (Southern, Texas, Carolina, Midwest) in which Navarro has been a midseason all-star. It's his sixth year in full-season ball. He was a 3rd-round choice of the Diamondbacks in 2007.

Selsky? That has to be a typo, right?

On a very positive note, I dont think even the most optimistic of us wouldve guessed the Reds would have 6 SP make midseason All Star teams.

Selsky? That has to be a typo, right?

He is hitting .306, and is fourth in the league in on-base percentage at .410. But, yes, it was a surprise to me.

Poor Bryan Anderson. He puts up this line in AA: .343/.427/.643/1.070, and then gets promoted to AAA. All he has done so far at Louisville is put up these numbers: .333/.396/.583/.980. His combined OPS for the season is 1.033. He probably isn't making any ASG.

The same story with Beau Amaral. Over three levels his combined numbers are: .327/.376./500/.876. No go for Beau.

Clearly not all the reasons for voting one an All-Star over another is in the numbers in this case, at least not with these Managers.

From seeing this in season's past I think the managers pick guys who are still prospects and with a little weight to age/level, too. A Marquez Smith has little chance unless he is at AAA. I mean he should be tearing up Bakersfield at his age and experience level. And the minors have to market their games, too. If I go to a minor league AS game I want to see Jesse Winker, not Marquez or some other guy above his level. Age/level/experience probably worked against Elizalde, too.

Sal Romano of Dayton added today as an all-star. I believe Elizalde will also be added if there is a promotion of an outfielder or first baseman from the current list of names.

redsof72, can you give any color on promotions from Dayton?

Guys like Guillon, Langfield and Romano - do you see them heading to Bakersfield in the next month? Anyone else?

Also, what are your thoughts on Ervin and Rahier this year?
