When can we consider this dude a prospect?

Granted, he's a bit old for the league, but he leads Dayton in nearly every offensive statistical category and in the MW league he is:

#2 in BB (43)
#2 in 3B (5)
#5 in R (39)
#4 in SB (19)....19 of 23
#9 in OBP (.391)...minimum 176 PA
#14 in OPS (.824)...minimum 176 PA

I assume he's a better than average in the OF as he's played 28 games in CF. I'm expecting a promotion soon, and I guess it might take him continuing his success at Daytona to reach that top-15 or top-20 prospect status, but so far this guy is looking like a pretty solid pick in the 8th round (pick #245). Also he appears to be quite that bargain ($10,000 signing bonus) as he, 9th-rounder Brian Hunter ($5,000) and 10-rounder Seth Varner ($5,000) all got the shaft to enable the Reds to sign 11th and 12th round picks Mitch Trees and Montrell Marshall for $300,000 and $200,000 respectively.

I'm not sure it's possible to have a worse start. Hopefully, he will rebound (I'm sure he couldn't do any worse). Looks like he's been placed on the Billings roster.

Trees certainly had a poor start but I place almost no stock in AZL numbers. Good or bad. If the guy doesn't hit in the Pioneer League though....

As for O'Grady he's only in Dayton. I won't get excited until he reaches AA and keeps similar numbers. A good showing in the hitting challenged FSL would keep raising his stock, too. But, as I noted in the POD thread, BOG certainly seems to have the makings of at least a good 4th OFer. Speed, good defense, plate discipline, ability to make contact, gap power.

Trees must have shown something or they probably would not have bumped him up to Billings. One would think that Stephenson is going to do the majority of the catching with the Mustangs. When does the high schooler, Trees, get the reps needed to develop? They could probably DH him when he isn't catching. But then what do you do with Joltin' Joe Jocketty? Or is it Shoeless Joe Jocketty?

Probably split time catching with Stephenson. Then Stephenson DHs when not behind the dish. If Jocketty costs Trees or Stephenson, or anyone else a single AB it's a damn crime.

O'Grady is in the "keep an eye on" stage. Fact is that he's a 23 year old who has lots of experience in a fairly major college like Rutgers. He should do well. It keeps him from being dismissed as a non-prospect, but a good but not dominating year doesn't vault him into my top 20.
