If Hamilton is getting a day off, that is a much better choice than Heisey and Ludwick against Greinke.

Hopefully.

Bernadina is 4 for 9 against Greinke.

And Schumaker has been pretty good against Greinke in the past.

Heisey has the same ave against him and Skip is at the end of his career. And Heisey is a far better OF'er than Skip. Its clear to me that Price prefers Skip in the OF to Heisey for some reason.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure it matters who the Reds put out there today if Greinke's slider and changeup are working as they have been. Those two pitches have been kryptonite to the Reds. They're 1.37 weighted runs created below average per 100 sliders (3rd worst in baseball behind the Pirates and Red Sox).

DocRed
06-12-2014, 11:57 AM
Skip has started 9 of the last 16 games going 5 for 36, BA .139 with ZERO XBH
Heisey has started 2 of the last 16 games going 2 for 14, BA .143 with 1HR and 1double.
Ludwick has started 7 of the last 16 games going 6 for 27, BA .222 with 2HR and 2double.

Clearly both Heisey and Luddie aren't lighting it up but Skip has been poor both offensively and defensively. At least Heisey gives you good D and Luddie has some pop. Even though all 3 have been not great you still weaken your team by continually starting the worst of the 3.

A couple things....

When I was growing up, we'd eat Skyline everytime dad took us to see the Reds play, which was a 2 hour drive from our home in Ohio.

In my mid-20's I moved to Florida and I haven't been to a game at GABP since at least 2005, which with that, haven't had Skyline in about a decade.

The other day I was driving around and luckily spotted one tucked away in a shopping center not too far from my house. I've been waiting for a special occasion to partake since I'm trying to watch the calories. Anyway, today is my 30th birthday, so I felt some Skyline was necessary as I watch the Reds today. I feel like a kid again.

It's weird listening to a game on radio. And I used to listen to tons of games on radio each year. But now, even the weekday "business day specials" are usually televised. It's a rarity when radio is the only option for me.

Brantley has improved a little as a PBP guy, but he's still awful for the most part. The game is much easier to follow when Marty is on the call. Brantley doesn't "paint the picture" of what is happening ... unless you count abstract art. On the other hand, Marty makes you feel like you're watching the game.
