The Reds are 12-6 over their last 18 games, and just three games back in the wild card race. Almost everyone is healthy. I see smooth sailing ahead.

Agree. Only 2 MLB teams have scored fewer runs than the Reds. However, only 5 teams have allowed fewer.

The pitching and defense is there (save a few rough spots in the 'pen), the bats are coming around (a mere 1 run deficit coming into today), and the Reds are at .500! Let's go.

Kind of reminiscent to the Elwood Blues quote: "It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

Trouble here. Harrison has been awfully hot lately.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Wednesday that he wants to continue getting Josh Harrison regular starts when Neil Walker (appendectomy) returns next week. Harrison is batting .280/.353/.452 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in 62 games this season. "He's added an edge for us at the plate, in the field, on the bases," Hurdle said. "His enthusiasm and energy, I do think, drips onto the other guys as well."

They also have a sub-defender at SS, so it's not like they would lose that much defensively by playing him there.

And, given the Pirates' depth chart when Walker gets back, it would be hard, despite what Hurdle says, to get Harrison some starts.

Exactly. He always has one bad stupid inning.

Third time through the lineup is difficult for any pitcher to get through...any pitcher, and when it's the uber-hot-hitting Polanco, Marte and McCutchen we're talking about, it's understandable....and it's not like they killed him with extra-base hits...but with three singles.

Get out of this and pitch another three innings without giving up some runs and he will have done a great job.

I would not pinch-hit for Homer in the top of the 7th, and would let him hit and then pitch the bottom of the 7th, and see how far he can go in the 8th.

Pounded a ball off the wall in the LF corner. Marte threw a seed back to 2nd and Frazier running hard thought he had an easy double...saw the throw and threw on the breaks. Hung out to dry.

Coming into a thread for no other reason than to say "That's so Bailey" when he gives up runs is going to annoy people.

1. I don't think the poster "came into the thread" for "no other purpose".

2. You're missing the point of the entire critique: It's not that Homer gives up runs, its how he gives up runs.

3. The only reason some of us critique Homer is because we think he has the ability to be an elite pitcher. He needs to overcome his "bad luck" like elite pitchers do. I suppose if you think Homer is just an average pitcher, than I guess there is nothing to criticize.

Lots of hard hit balls and a walk to the pitcher. The profile on Homer is that he falls apart when things get tough, he let's a few bad breaks get to him. Last year, it wasn't the case. The rest of his career, including this year, it seems to be.
