It is hard to complain about the offense lately, but I'm going to anyway. I simply can't wrap my head around continuing to bat BP 4th. Swap him with Devin and be done with it already.

If the Reds are going to have a backup SS who doesn't hit much, I kind of like Santiago. Switch hitter, decent approach at the plate, doesn't make too many mistakes.

Wouldn't mind him for another year if the Reds choose to have that type of player on the roster.

Reds offense has been cooking since Joey came back.

Which is odd because Joey isn't hitting that much. I'm sure it affects the opposing pitcher, but we still haven't seen vintage Votto.

I think it would help Votto if the Reds had a big power hitting cleanup man. Bruce or Frazier might play that role, but a new guy for next year wouldn't be a bad idea.

I want pitchers to pay big time and immediately when they walk Votto.

What a clutch start by Leake today. With the bullpen at their breaking point he comes up with a solid 8 innings

do you let leake finish it?

Hell yeah, if he's up to it. Let him go back out there and try for the complete game. He's earned that shot IMO.

The Reds need a guy like Rasmussen in their bullpen. He's thrown 23 strikes and only 4 balls so far.

You did that on purpose, didn't you?

Btw...I lied. I said I wouldn't watch this weekend, but after the 2nd inning or so, I started peeking in.

And now we're going with Contreras as the "fix" after Diaz didn't seem to be last night?

I wasn't one of the people clamoring for Diaz, as I think ultimately the real 'help' is going to have to come from outside the organization. That said, Diaz does have enough 'stuff' that I'm willing to pass off last night as a jittery debut against a really, really good offense. He may still be a good addition. I'm not going to hold my breath, but I won't dismiss him just yet.

The Reds are about 1 run less for the season than the average team in the NL on a per game basis.

That didn't take long, and all it took was a healthy return of Votto and Bruce.

Well, in fairness, it also took Billy Hamilton starting to catch fire, Ryan Ludwick coming back to his career numbers and Devin Mesoraco getting out of his slump. But you're right, the point to take away here is that once everyone was healthy and starting to get back on track, the offense is going to be just fine.

I sometimes share the visiting team's news article about the game, but I meant to highlight the Enquirer's story from yesterday's paper. Written by John Erardi, it really is an exquisite narrative of a good game.

In particular, these two paragraphs jumped out at me as just excellent, but again the whole article is good read.

There was probably a little more hangover Saturday from Friday among the fans than the players, only because the fans tend to live and die over each game whereas the players are more 162-oriented. On the other hand, the embarrassment level for players is a lot more real the most fans imagine.

The past two games – Friday with the Reds up 8-0 after two, Saturday with them up 8-0 after four – made for strange out-of-body experiences in both, the former watching the lead evaporate, the latter watching the lead build, the eeriness of it heightened by the déjà vu potential.
