Hamilton 8
Frazier 5
Votto 3
Phillips 4
Bruce 9
Mesoraco 2
Ludwick 7
Cozart 6
Latos 1

With Rocco catching, I really expected to see Pena at 1B.

Anyway, Ron Burgandy tells us that San Diego was discovered by the Germans in 1904.

Price may be hoping that Votto can play tonight, and Tuesday, and then give him Wednesday off, which would give him two days before the Friday game with the Brewers.

If Votto is as staunch with his saying "he doesn't need or want a day off" to Price as he is to the media, and the medical staff says he can play, I don't blame Price for writing his name down. As gimpy as he has been, he has still produced here recently.

Also, the game is like 4+ hours out, maybe Votto shows up to Petco and says he needs a day off or something.

But they made up for it with those awesome totals of .241 OBP and .261 SLG and .502 OPS.

Schedule is probably to give Reds Thursday off as a travel day. Long west coast trip. So Reds play Monday and some other teams don't.

Reds scored runs in SF without many home runs. Need to keep that trend going since very hard to hit them out in SD.

But then Grandal had to stop taking PED's (and has been god awful since) and Mes got a chance to play full time and is Johnny Bench Jr.

I've learned to trust in Walt. More often than not he's right in the long run.

There are a lot more considerations than just numbers. Frankly, though, statistically the difference of swapping them is probably closer to being negligible than worth worrying about.

Folks on here have been round and round on the importance of lineups to run production. I would always argue that if there is any gain to be had, it should be taken. Chances are we're talking 2-3 wins per year with an optimized lineup, and that can be important in a Wild Card battle.

But anyway...

I understand that this is just one game and there are egos and personalities involved. So maybe that's the reason.

Because otherwise, I don't see why you'd want a weaker hitter getting more plate appearances in any game.

The Reds have spent the better part of the last five years with the teams worse hitters at or near the top of the lineup. As a fan I'm just happy that we finally have a coach that knows where those guys belong.

With all due respect, yawn. After the hits BP had in Frisco I had hoped that we would postpone complaints about "optimized lineups" and egos, and personalities for a few days. Over the years I've seen BP hit in almost every spot in the lineup without complaint. There is no support for the assumption that Price bats him fourth to satisfy Brandon's "ego".

Get good pitching, play good defense, do the fundamentals, and everything else will take care of itself.

It's not just about "egos" but it's also about comfort level. Not everyone is comfortable in every spot.

The point is, there's far too much hand wringing about lineup construction. Swapping Phillips for Mesoraco means, at most, a couple runs for an entire season. It's really pointless to worry about.

This is a legitimate question (not trying to be snarky):

If an infielder puts his knee in front of the bag before he has the ball, why isn't the runner automatically safe the same way he would be if it happened at the plate?

Collisions at other bases are not the problem that they are at home plate. Maybe if Derek Jeter got his knee killed by a guy trying to break up a double play they would have changed the rule. But base runners aren't coming in with a head of steam trying to run over a SS or 2B.

Reds should have multiple runs already with all these base runners.

Their biggest threat was Mat Latos hitting with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Not every single inning a runner gets on can you expect runs. They will get to this kid.

LOL...It will take more than that to keep you guys down. Anybody that knows anything will tell you that the Reds are a dangerous team. So many tools. After you pass the dirty birds you're going to give the Brews hell.

One of you will win it and the other will be looking to edge out LA/SF for a wild card. You should be rooting for the Cards to beat the Giants in the upcoming series. BTW, I have no illusions about the Cards. Not hitting and a decimated rotation, throw in the worst manager in baseball and you're left with a .500 team.

They will pick up an arm before the deadline, but it will be too late. Good luck dealing with those Brewers...they're for real.

Oh now wait a minute. I heard Jim Bowden on MLBradio a few days ago state that the Cards are THE organization in baseball. He said that is mostly because they have the best owner, best GM and best manager in the game, and no one disputes that. And all us Reds fans know Bowden is NEVER wrong.

I don't know if this is intentional but Hamilton got thrown out in CHI and SD on throws that bounced to 2nd. It's hard to believe that a catcher would do that on purpose since if a throw got away he'd be on 3rd easy but it's worked a couple of times. Perhaps if they are doing it intentionally, they figure it would save precious tenths of seconds in getting the tag down.
