Just watched the USA-Belgium soccer match (why I don't know) and it reminded me of a Reds game in Petco. low score and they pitched better than we did. USA lost 2-1. Even sounded like a Reds-Padres score in Petco...:)

Anyone up for a drinking game? Any time a Reds hitter takes a strike and Thom says "and he takes one RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE" even though the pitch is anything but down the middle we do a shot. Who is in?

Interesting (to me anyway) break snippet - the Reds have the 7th best team era of all 30 teams ALL TIME (3.71). That's surprising considering how the Reds have been identified as a slugging team with little pitching for over half a century (until the last few years)

The Operator
07-01-2014, 11:04 PM
Totally agree he's not right. Also fine with sitting him for a while. But the argument that he's not helping the club is just wrong. He is helping the team, but the level of production he's giving right now isn't worth risking further injury.

He's basically Sean Casey right now. I'm not willing to risk him getting hurt even worse for that.

I don't know which leg it is. Not implying anything like that. Just saying he looks terribly uncomfortable. And, I know this from experience: sometimes when you have a hurt leg, you can overcompensate for it by taxing the other one and wind up hurting it, too.

He is helping the team, but the level of production he's giving right now isn't worth risking further injury.

He's basically Sean Casey right now. I'm not willing to risk him getting hurt even worse for that.

But you're saying he looks awkward on his front leg when his back leg is the one that is hurt. It's a left quad/knee injury, which is his back leg.

His lower body is a mess. He crumpled over the front leg because he's compensating for something in the left. It's obvious. He looks like 1988 World Series Kirk Gibson.

Pay attention to Votto's ABs. Early in the counts, he tries to generate power with his front leg. It looks goofy, but that's what he's doing. Late in the counts (his hit last night) he stays back and tries to put the ball in play. I mean, I think Votto knows more about hitting and his body than the rest of us.

Yes, his back knee. He's not even trying to generate any power with his back leg, it's obviously hurting.

But this thought that he's magically doing some damage to his front leg is wrong.
