Well, Santiago got on base 3 times yesterday, and had an inside the park HR on Sunday. Or did he?

It's one thing him playing back up SS, but when he effectively replaces the 1B, that's pretty tough to take.

Why swing at 2-0 when the pitcher is showing wildness? I know the P is up next, but getting the pitch count up higher should be paramount in a DH. And if you're going to swing, it better be in a specific zone and you better drive the ball. Very disappointed in the complete disappearance of Cozart's power this year. If you had told me that Billy would have 2x the HR as Cozart, I would have called you crazy.

I like the high pitch count by Wood. Always nice to start a DH by putting the starter on the ropes. Beating up Russel and Parker last night helps as well.

Be nice to get to three or four relievers this game with Johnny cruising to a CG

Does anybody on here have a rough idea when we can expect Jesse Winker to arrive?

I don't follow the minors nearly like some folks do, but I looked his stats up last night and he's killing it this year, although he's slowed down a bit since moving up to AA.

I'm just pumped to know we've got a hitting prospect on the way.

Look at how few people are at this game. Looks like less than 8,000. Combine that with tonight's total and they could have had the same number of tickets sold by just having the Double-header as one ticket. Give the fans back something once in a while.

MUCH better than the Reds guys

I really like Chris Welsh--I think he's the best announcer on FSO. And though some don't agree, I think Jim Kelch does a solid professional job--understated, but prepared. Thom's hyperbole gets tiresome. Cowboy is better on TV than radio. And then there's Marty. When he's on top of his game, he's the best there is. But like a spirited thoroughbred, he needs a stong hand at the reins. Joe Nuxhall was that strong hand. I don't think Cowboy can handle him. Kelch does better, because he lets Marty be Marty and focuses on his job. Chris is the closest to the Old Lefthander in temperament during the few times he has worked radio, but I don't want to lose him from the TV crew. George is your eccentric uncle--you wouldn't want him around all the time, but you really enjoy his irregular visits.

Listen to Kasper long enough and you'll get tired of him. Goerge Grande Part II.

Much like George, he's probably best in small doses.

How many people who will be at tonight's game had been here for the earlier game, spending money on local businesses as they spend the entire day downtown, while spending more on parking, concessions, shopping, etc.? Turning it into a major event by having a true Double-header is a win-win financially, not the pitfall that they imagine it to be.

not sure I can go there with you.... what was it, four straight years that the Reds had Gold Gloves at C, 2B, SS & CF (74-77)?

Concepcion - GG 74-79
Morgan - GG 74-77
Bench- GG 68-77
Geronimo - GG 74-77

Add in that Pete Rose was a former GG winner (68 & 70) so unless you thin that Griffey, Perez & Foster were the worst defenders ever, the edge has to go to the BRM

Billy is better than Cesar. Phillips is better that Little Joe. Bruce is better than Griffey. Heisey is better than Foster. Frazier is better than Rose. Cozart is closer to Concepcion than I ever wanted to admit. Votto has gotten worse unfortunately, but during his GG season, he was right there with Doggie. Rocco is good....but come on...JB? No chance.

GG's are quite often awarded for the bat unfortunately. Not slighting any of those BRM guys, they were all deserving, just saying that pointing to GG's isn't the best way to judge.

RedlegJake
07-08-2014, 03:06 PM
I don't think the BRM had the range these guys do. Both very consistent. As to gold gloves - that had a whole lot to do with 1/the team overall success and 2/those guys were solid hitters for their positions (Morgan and Bench for any position of course). Neither should influence gold glove ballots but both factor in heavily.

Too many guys need work badly. Price has been leaning far too much on 3-4 pitchers and avoiding the rest. I get it that he doesn't have confidence in them, but if they're on the roster...you need to use them. If he's not going to use them regularly enough to stay sharp....send them down and replace them or go with a shorter pen. It's quite simple and frustrating that they won't do it.
