Action at the big ballyard in the South Bronx. For anyone going to the games this weekend, recommend the pastrami and the knishes (ask for lots of mustard) at the Court Deli on 161 and Walton. Across from the courthouse, a few blocks east of the Stadium. Jewish food served by latinos. Only in New York.

Just for kicks - 15,246 not counting the pitcher, fewest is Gardner's 613

Has there ever been a lineup with more career hits? Obviously yes but man there are a lot there.

This is a nice way of saying "Damn, there are a lot of washed up players in that Yankees' starting lineup."

The DH really highlights how poor the choices are for bat off the bench

The line-up has looked pretty unremarkable for weeks now, yet the Reds are 26 - 15 since June 1. So...

RedlegJake
07-18-2014, 06:28 PM
The Yanks roster is like an All Star team. Lots of past their prime popular players and a couple young guys. Only the names re scary - look at the numbers and you can see why they're struggling.

Ironman92
07-18-2014, 06:33 PM
This is a nice way of saying "Damn, there are a lot of washed up players in that Yankees' starting lineup."

No, I don't think that way. If a guy has 2,200 hits I don't think that he's just over the hill and not really much of a factor anymore....I just appreciate that they have 2,200 hits.

Ironman92

As a big fan of Leake, supporter of Heisey and someone who has enjoyed several players on the Yankees over the years.....this could be one of those game threads that I might not be able to tolerate very long.

Need Leake to go 7 innings to get the Reds, himself and the bullpen wear off to a good start. I feel one of those 10 hits in 5 1/3 inn games with 4-5 ER.

How many times are they going to watch strike 3???

Not enjoyable too much but with a chance to win. Leake was far from great but was good enough. Frazier o'lay'd one leading to a run. Right before Ellsbury's HR they were playing Jeter up the middle??? Either Leake and Meso messed up by pitching it outside or the worst scouting report ever.

Cannot believe Bruce's ball didn't leave the park.

I think they slow him down too much. There are several reasons they want you to slow down and focus....but IMO it helps take away Leake's ability of not letting the hitter get set and focused.

More likely that the Reds have seemingly 100 pitchers on the roster and nobody to actually hit the ball. Injuries or not it's possible to actually find a decent baseball player and not to count on Negron, Soto, and Lutz types. That is an absurd bench.

I just don't understand what people expect. We have a maxed out payroll and a depleted farm. And on the fact that there are not really any realistic targets for a good price and that means we'll probably stand pat. Why is it an expectation to have solid hitters 1-8? Has everyone forgotten how rare it is to have a balanced team offensively and defensively? It's pretty freaking rare, especially for a small market team like ourselves.

This game is absolutely the kind of game where someone would come onto the game thread and voice their displeasure with the 100 pitchers on the roster and absolute garbage bench. The same bench that allowed Ramon Santiago to end a nine inning game without a bench bat being used.

I'd like Walt to make a move and get a guy like Zobrist or something but tonight's loss couldn't be pinned on Walt.

Pena, Heisey, Santiago - guys that shouldn't be playing everyday and are the reason to get a Zobrist - actually produced today.

Hamilton, Frazier, Bruce, and Rocco all laid an egg tonight. That's why we lost. Unless you wanna replace one of them (or Mike Leake) then Walt is a non-factor tonight.

I don't really care about one game actually. I don't expect Mes, Bruce, and Hamilton to struggle like this obviously. I DO expect major troubles long term if he doesn't get to work and improve the bench in some meaningful way. It's not anyone's job but his to produce a roster with decent depth. You don't even have to give me anywhere near a very good player like Zobrist. Go out and work like Sandy Alderson and give me a 50 year old Bobby Abreu.
