I'm assuming Mes is fine, it's just that Homie don't throw to Mes.

It's not ideal, but if they don't trust one of Lutz/Soto, and they don't seem to, then Frazier has the most experience at 1B on the roster.

I would prefer they left Frazier at 3B, and let Santiago and Schumaker split 2B, while playing Lutz at 1B if you are going to keep him up here.

Ironman92

Frazier plays 3rd.... Frazier plays 3rd. He looks stinky at first.

Play Frazier at 3rd....put Skip or Santiago at first if they want.

Don't move Bruce and don't move Frazier.

When the roster is as depleted as it is, this personal catcher stuff needs to go out the window. I know Mes hasn't been hitting much lately, but you gotta have him in the lineup right now.

Not much of a break for All-Star players....might equal a day off.

07-22-2014, 05:38 PM
What in sam bloody hell is going on with Mez right now?

Guess as to reasons Mes isn't playing tonight:

1. Day game tomorrow after a night game.
2. Price wants Mes to catch two of three, not three of three.
3. Mes looked off at the plate last night, needs a day to re-group.

PepperJack

http://marksheldon.mlblogs.com/2014/07/22/mesoraco-sits-for-bailey-start/

“We need a really good start,” Price said. “Homer threw really well in San Francisco against the Giants when he threw to Pena. Over the course of their careers together, Homer will throw a lot to Devin. Devin has scuffled a little bit at the plate. I think a day off isn’t the worst thing and putting those two together is good as well.”

When Pena caught Bailey on June 29, the Reds got a three-hit shutout. Bailey took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Mesoraco is 1-for-11 since the All-Star break.

Didn't he K 3 times last night? I think he's K'd quite a bit lately. Trying to do too much?

Bryan has forgotten more than I know but Lutz and Frazier sure seems preferable to Frazier and Santiago. Why weaken yourself at two positions?

On the bright side, hopefully Todd and Jay have now proven beyond any doubt that first base is not all that easy to play. I guess Keith, Donnie Baseball and The Doggie had some talent after all.

walt should do something, but the problem is that we should upgrade at the moment at 1B, 2B, SS, LF, RF (on offense and yes I do know that some of them are in slumps or are injury related)

I have the feeling that there might be to many holes to fill.. I do expect regression on offense from Rocco and Hamilton (while Bruce will imrove) and from the pitchers Simon and Broxton (while Latos should improve)

I don't see how you figure. Santiago has been hitting well since BP went down, Lutz still hasn't shown any capability of hitting major league pitching.

Santiago is a below average third baseman. Todd is a below average first baseman. Todd is a great third baseman. Ergo- why weaken yourself at two positions.

Don't suspect over time Santiago's offense is going to out rank Lutz' offense. And if you're that big a fan of Santiago's big bat (), put him at first base.

Some of us mentioned the need for hitting in, say, April of 2013 and all winter.
You wanted the offense at positions such as third, left, and center. Third and center have been huge successes by staying pat. Catcher has been above average offensively as well. Walt decided to roll with the guy he is already paying several million this year and he has provided a .730 OPS. Not very good, but not a disaster.

Unless Walt had a crystal ball that foretold him Votto and Phillips would miss significant chunks of the season, I don't see what Walt could have done besides trade the farm for Tulowitzki (or give up a 1st round pick for a lousy Stephen Drew) or spend money he apparently didn't have on a Nelson Cruz or Marlon Byrd.
