Is there a LH pitching? Can Lutz get maybe 2 starts in a row at 1B. How many hitters could actually be capable of doing much starting once every 10 days?

Can we also stop with the rotating lineups and 1B, 3B and 2B.

powersackers

Gio Gonzalez LHP. 7.8 H/9, 4.0 BB/9 9.3 K/9. We've had less than 10 runners every game since the ASB. I predict a CG shutout, 13Ks with this BS lineup Jocketty and Price are using.

mez and ludwick not in the linup is a joke facing a lefty. i back price but this is pathetic esp with the lack of options on the bench.

07-26-2014, 02:02 PM
Price doesn't have any options. He's trying anything to get some of these guys going. He seems to hope extra rest will do it. Luddy, Frazier, Mes, Bruce all have an OPS under .475 since the break. Ouch.

Everybody is in a major slump at the exact same time, what is a manager to do.

The way this entire team is playing right now, Price could draw names out of a hat to form the lineup and it wouldn't matter much.

I was being a little facetious. Aside from Mez not being in the lineup, there's really not much to throw at Price right now.

He has to consistently put 3 backups in the lineup and our usual producers are sucking right now.

Simply don't agree. JC has logged a lot of innings and its beginning to show. "Pressure" has nothing to do with it. Lack of offense is one thing. The recent inability of our starters to pitch like they did in the first half,(when our offense wasn't exactly the '27 yankees) is something totally different.

You make too many assumptions. Cueto worked his ass off today and pitched 7 innings with no margin for error. He easily could have told Price he was running on empty. We have seen for 100 games now that Price really doesn't concern himself with pitch counts.

Cueto is not "on fire" if he's walking 3 guys in 7 innings. His last several starts have been pretty dicey. I like getting him out on a good note.

Price is very Dusty-like. He is willing to use Chapman more than one inning, but maybe once or twice before I can recall.

The big difference I see is being much more aggressive on the bases, although mixed results.

In the Cubs/Cards game, there was a close play at third, in which Carpenter royally screwed up the tag. But the ump missed it and called the runner out. Replay was clear and decisive that he was safe. Renteria doesn't ask for replay, and I don't blame him, considering how poorly the replay system has worked so far.

There have been fewer and fewer challenges as the season progresses, and I have to believe it's because no one has faith in the system anymore.

False. He gave up 0 runs, 4 hits and had 9 Ks in 7 IPs (with most of the Ks coming in his latter innings). If you don't consider that on fire for a pitcher, it's fair to say we'll agree to disagree.

True, but his past 5 starts or so have been pretty sloppy for him...and pulling him while he is ON a roll just builds the confidence (and yes, even vets need confidence boosts). Higher walks than normal, higher runs than normal...and nearly 120 pitch counts. Yanking him after 7 was a solid choice overall.

Do me a favor, go look at his ESPN gamelogs. Look at his recent games. Getting him out of there on a good note is a good plan. Not pushing his pitch count after 2 high ones in a row is a good plan.

Lastly, Cueto "on fire" and another pitcher being "on fire" are 2 different things. Don't get me wrong, he pitched excellently...especially as the game went on. But he wasn't sharp early and the Nats helped him out some too. Plus the Reds D helped him quite a bit today as well. Not knocking Johnny...just saying it was NOT a bad choice to yank him.
