I long ago stopped starting game threads as I felt a jinx and rarely post in game threads due anymore for the same superstition. Seems like it is time to pull a Costanza and do the opposite.

2nd straight game for Lutz starting and it is interesting to see Mesoraco catching after catching 15 last night. My guess is the even shorter bench may be a factor in that decision.

I'm curious how infrequently Ludwick plays and how haphazard the use of guys in the OF is.

Why not:

Hamilton
Santiago
Frazier
Mesoraco
Ludwick (LF)
Lutz (1b)
Heisey/Shumaker (RF)
Cozart
Leake

What is curious is that Partch threw 31 pitches last night so I doubt he is available today.

He did manage to hit three people with one of his pitches so at least in that regard he was pitch efficient.

One reason "why not" would be that Pena is one of the few recent producers and needs to be in there -- especially against right-handed pitching.

Careful you'll get attacked and then they'll change your words.

He works quickly and ball movement and pitching speed are similar and both field their position. Maddux however was a Mensa genius and Leake hopes to make the honor roll. I love the similarities I see....I wish to see them more consistently.

Enjoying this game but 1 thing bothered me.

Solid game by Leake.

Reds in first inning....saw 16 pitches and scored

Reds in 2nd inning....saw 28 pitches and scored

Reds in 6th inning saw 19 pitches and scored

Reds in 3rd-5th innings only saw 31 pitches total....didn't score.

After scoring in each of the first two innings while working the starter....Santiago swings and makes an out on 1st pitch to start the 3rd and then Frazier swings at second pitch of inning for 2nd out....this guarantees Devin starting down 0-1.....got their pitcher going

Leake comes through again. This is at least the 2nd time he has come through with a good, long outing when the bullpen really needed the rest. Leake is getting better and better and he will be the type of pitcher who should have a good long MLB career.
Amazing only five out. It really leaves you wondering what if the Reds had just filled that black hole in LF where would this team be now?
