A RH bat instead of a Partch in a pear tree would be more useful...so Skip does not have to start, nor does he deserve to anyways especially against a LH.

Maybe Price is hoarding up on pitchers because of Armageddon or he thinks it's the 20's and they scheduled a Triple Header. They actually did schedule one of those back then.

I don't mind giving Hamilton a day off. (I think he could use it.) But I would have strongly considered Negron in CF with Heisey in RF and Schumaker out vs. the lefty.

I forgot about Negron being able to play CF. I would prefer just not to see Skip much anymore. Time to realize your a poser of a contender without upgrades.

I know they look at the Rays and see that just pitching can cary you but that division is weak this year compared to this one.

I've heard that Negron is nearly as good defensively as Hamilton in CF. I guess he can really go get it.

With the hands that are available (assuming that Hamilton needs a day off), it's just about as good as can be put out there. Like I said, I would replace Skip with Negron, and flip Heisey and Negron defensively, but otherwise this is as good as it gets.

On Partch, keep in mind that Parra seems to have some injury so the Reds want to carry the extra pitcher.

Why Parra hasn't been DL'd is a different question.

On Schumaker, hope it works out but not ideal today.

What also sucks is that we don't have great Defense any more. Our Starting pitching, as a result, especially in the GAB, is no longer elite. It needs the elite Defense it had earlier in the season. They might occasionally give up no runs or one run, but they are as likely to give up four or more,...and this Offense can't win a game when they need to have five runs or more....heck, they can't win when they need to have three runs. Simon better figure out a way to shut them out, while expecting to have to get four outs in an inning or two to do it.

On that grounder to 2nd, BP would flip that behind his back to Cozart. Santiago didn't, causing Cozart to have to turn awkwardly to get a good throw and that was the difference between the out and safe at 1st. Makes you think that BP doesn't just do that for show, that he has a real reason for flipping it behind his back the way he will on occasion.

Justin Masterson is currently on the disabled list with a bum knee and has been completely terrible this year. He is sporting a 5.51 ERA and a 5.1 BB/9. He is also a free agent after the season.

Ramsey is one of the top prospects in the Cardinals organization sporting a .916 OPS at AA.

The Cardinals got completely fleeced.

When anyone puts on a Cardinal uniform and drinks from the magic fountains in Cardinal land, they become MVP's.
Masterson was good last year. I guess they're hoping for a return to form.

The main point is the Reds don't know what they're going to do, so they do nothing.

Doubt it.

Isn't Masterson the guy that last off-season was viewed as a Bailey comp for salary/arbitration purposes?

His health is probably not a concern, the Cards know he's on the DL they checked it out undoubtedly.

This minor leaguer, well, the Cards know him too. We get a little gaga about prospects here. Cards obviously decided to keep the ones they really liked, so they didn't go for Price or Hamels.

Heisey bunted for a base hit. Not a bad play, almost had it.

Negron's baserunning on that run down was the best running I've seen from a Red this year, except for some of Hamilton's steals.

I could see Kristopher having a future as a utility infielder.

Stayed in the rundown long enough for Santiago to replace him at second.

I'm an old timer. I've seen some impulsive GMs.

Some GMs over the years would have fired the manager after the base running in this series. Not kidding.

May not have mattered anyway, Simon gave up the homer.

Of course, if you asked Price, he'd say they gave me such a lousy offense I have to do anything possible to try and score. So he has a good response.

The most frustrating thing is the inaction. Not doing anything to improve this team. Your first and second basemen go on the DL, and the response is "our bench and backup catcher will handle it"? Huh? They're going to handle it for a couple/few months?

It was a sharp hit. just bad luck.

Sorry I stepped out to run errands.
Yes it was well struck but it was still probably still the wrong play. All that inning the pitcher was having problems locating but the Reds with the exception of Mesoraco gave him some relief by swinging early in the count. In an early inning they should not have been letting a wild pitcher off the hook by swinging when up 1-0, 2-0 or after Miley had just walked a guy on four straight. Now if they want to swing on something which is right in their zone, I can understand that but not when it is off the plate like with Lucwick. In the 8th, Ludwick did the same by swinging on the first pitch. At that point they were down 3 and needed runners but at least that pitch was right where he usually does his damage.

Part of my frustration is that often the Reds strategy appears to swing early in the count against a pitcher with a good control rep, regardless of whether they are actually in the zone at that time. Especially true in day games.
