Lineups are really early today. That's the earliest I remember for a 7:10 game. I think I would be playing Ludwick right now. He has been hitting the ball well lately and you had better ride that horse while he's hot. If Bruce gets on one his torrid hot streaks that will keep the Reds close and maybe even vault them into the playoffs. One can dream can't he?

Ludwick probably can't play effectively every day. Dusty rested him very often, once every series pretty much. Never really explained. But now, with his injury last year and a bit older, just have to get used to Ryan sitting more frequently than most starting players.

As for Bruce, just reading between the lines, hitting him second was a signal to Jay. Stop trying to hit a six run homer. Just hit the ball solidly and be part of the offense.

And as we saw yesterday, when he's making good contact the ball will leave the yard sooner or later.

I kinda dig that lineup.

On Ludwick, my guess would be that they are still hoping to move him this month, and want to lessen the risk of overexposure and injury. It's just a guess, but it could explain why his already sporadic playing time due to age/health, has become even more sporadic.

As for his going to right field, sometimes a little success is dangerous. We all recall Cozart did well going to right late last year. RedsZone, replete with allusions to his "new" approach. Maybe Cozart simply needed to keep the old approach, along with his stellar defense.

Time to change pitchers. It is silly to leave Latos out there. Ruins his ERA and makes the game closer. Should have gone after the HR.

Who plays shortstop everyday? IMO he is SO steady on defense and, yes, he's having a rough offensive year, but for some reason I see him correcting that next year.

His best game of the year and he was good yesterday....I was joking

I agree with kbrake. I would've sent him out for the 8th too. Once the HR happened, I get somebody up. Once 2 got on, I would've pulled him. But the number of pitches wasn't a problem.

Price left him in 1 hitter longer than I would've.

You guys are hilarious tonight. The Reds have very good starting pitchers. Those pitchers deserve a chance to go deep into games when they have reasonable pitch counts.

I think you're somewhat right, but there was no need to keep him in after two were on. This could become a three run game soon.

I really think Dusty actually handled the pitching staff better than Price which would have surprised me going into this year.

I disagree. Latos has never been particularly strong late in games. He's not like Bailey in that regard.

Dusty stretched him out last year, trying to improve Mat in the late innings. Fine, but this year is different, Mat hasn't worked that much and had injuries.

There was no need to push the envelope here. Pitch count is only one factor, he went out there and warmed up 8 times.

8-0 ballgame, 8th inning, if you don't have secondary relievers who can handle it, get new ones.

Could not agree more. Latos is a gamer. No way he was coming out of that game after 7 with the way he was pitching, nor should Price have yanked him then.

Second guy got on was a no brainer to get him out.....Price likes to stretch his starters and I'm good with that.

Didn't hurt anything other than getting bullpen some work and a bit to Latos' e.r.a

The key to predicting what's going to happen next is to watch the patterns developing. It seems like Price is blind to this sometimes, and makes his move only on the activity immediately previous. Latos getting tired? Just pull him. Be the friggin' manager for a change.

No doubt but he did everything perfectly and glove was in perfect position....he flubbed it up and his reaction said it all. He'd tell you he's gotta catch that ball.

But I honestly really don't care at all....in a tight game in a big situation yeah, but it's ALL good tonight.

The Enquirer quoted Latos, saying, "I'm a little aggravated at myself. When you tell the catcher, 'I'm going off the pitches you want to throw.' Then you end up shaking him off. I basically contradicted myself." We were at the game and Pena came out and I wondered whether Latos wasn't happy with what Pena had called, but I see now it was the other way around.

Makes me think Mat ought to rewatch Bull Durham - "don't think, just throw it!" [Annie: "oh no, he's shaking off the signs."]

(of course, he best not emulate the horrid pitching motion of Tim Robbins. Movies really break down on that.

Pena and Negron had a couple of interesting plays. The one where it too a funny bounce and Pena's muffed it, not knowing where it was and Negron getting to the ball and easily throwing out the runner was a fun one. And that one's scored 3-4-1 in the books. But the other one was a ball hit to that side with both Pena and Negron moving towards. At the last moment, Pena hopped over the ball allowing it to go through to Negron who threw to Latos for a 4-1 put out.
