Being based in Ohio there are fans on redszone that root for both the Buckeye's football program and Reds baseball.

But as the Rolling Stones famously opined, you can't always get what you want. Assume you were granted one wish in which you could have any (but only one) sports team win their championship. Using this hypothetical, consider the poll questions and discuss why you picked what you picked.

I would rather see the Cincinnati Reds win a championship without a doubt.

1. I prefer baseball over football and the Reds are my favorite team in any sport.
2. Ohio State has won a championship somewhat recently. 1990 was a long time ago, and I had just turned 7 so I don't really remember it.
3. The older I get the less I respect the NCAA organization and it has soured my view on college sports in general.

I chose you're a jerk for asking! :)

Gun to my head, I'm taking the Reds but I root just as hard for an Ohio State championship come January.

I was a Junior at OSU during the 2002-03 title run. I doubt I will ever experience the joy and elation that goes along with a championship season like that one. Tipped passes to beat UC, OT vs Illinois, Holy Buckeye, beating Michigan at home when the clock keeper left 1 second on the clock, the generous flag to extend the game against Miami and then C Grant coming up the middle on 4th and goal to finish off Miami.

Big games happen pretty much each and ever weekend in the fall. In baseball the big games aren't as prominent and the season is a long marathon. I would probably lean Reds because that would mean 11 pressure packed wins over the course of a month. That said I would like to see OSU win a National Championship to shut everyone down south up.

I like the Buckeyes about as much as the Taliban. Reds all the way.

Nothing will shut up the south. They have their own network now.

This is a mean question. Bengals or Reds might be even more cruel (for me anyway.)

I can't really pick one way or another.

My question to you is: Auburn or Reds?

I voted Reds, but the pessimist in me thinks this whole poll was simply devised as a delivery route for the Urban Meyer zinger which appeared in the choices.

It probably was, but I like having this conversation from time to time. I usually expand it out to all the teams I follow not just the Reds and Buckeyes, but I almost always choose a Buckeye championship as #1. Reds are a very very very close second though.

Pessimism is not a pathway to enlightenment.

I would take a Louisville football or Xavier basketball championship over a Reds World Series championship. College sports are just more important to me.

I'd even take a Louisville World Series over the Reds. Not living in Cincy combined with the improvement in Louisville sports has changed the order of my rooting interests.

should allow multiple selections. I wanted to use that Urban Meyer one!

What's a Louisville World Series?

What's a Louisville World Series?

Seriously? It's some wierd, obscure thing the NCAA does in Oklahome. It's shrouded in great secrecy and no one truly knows what happens there but it's assumed that some ritual is conducted in order to declare a champion.

You opened the can of worms, jojo. It's a fair question.

So mysterious, in fact, that it is actually in Nebraska. :D

And that is why the college world series is so secret. No one can even find it.

Guess you could start a poll.

College football is boring.

There, I said it.

College fans are usually worse than most pro fans.

Reds all day, everyday.

Well we have our answer. Jojo would NOT root for the Reds. That's painfully clear as is his reluctance to answer a straightforward and fair question

We had a question like this a few years on RZ. It's probably archived somewhere. Basically it was what teams that are your favorite would you like to see win a championship the most? In a close call I said I would go with UK basketball for mine. I don't consider my self any less of a Reds fan for saying that. It's just in the way I rooted for teams and where are from IMO. I think people who are into college sports are just a little more passionate for their favorite college team. I suppose you could do massive rearch on why that is and never really know the answer.

In my case I grew up cheering for Marshall, my parents attended Marshall, and I attended Marshall during Pruett's Pennington/Moss/Leftwich era. So my bond to The Herd is such that I cheer for them above all others. I have a similar affinity for Xavier (I also have a degree from X) and would place a national title for the Muskies above a Reds World Series. But when it comes to professional sports, I'll take a Reds championship above all else. Baseball is my favorite sport in a run away and the Reds are my favorite team.

I wouldnt care if the Reds and Bengals lost every single game next year if that means the Bearcats beat the hairless nuts in September

I'm fully prepared to replace my windows and siding from flying rocks when I proudly fly the C-Paw outside my Columbus home this September.

Paint, if I didn't like you so much, I'd demand an RZ permaban.

As an organization, I harbor no ill will towards them. It's a fine institution and Mrs. Paint's employer, even. But dammit, the cult of personality that surrounds the football program is suffocating to anyone who dares to not wear the scarlet-colored glasses, especially living in a town that kowtows to the university's every whim.

Knock 'em down a peg or twelve, Bearcats.

Don't hold your breath :). These aren't Tressel's Bucks that are content to play it safe and let it by a one or two possession game deep into the second half. This team is a different beast.

I'm with you on that although it would be hard to go 0-162. 0-16 not so much.

Go Cats!!
