I'm glad to see Skip getting the nod over Y-Rod- it should make for a lively pregame thread. It should also lead me to have less interest in the game and an earlier bedtime. Also they called up 47 players but Frazier still has to go play first?

Reds pitcher Dylan Axelrod (1-0) will be the latest tasked with trying to slow down the Orioles' explosive offense in his third start of the season. He's been good so far, though, allowing two runs in a combined 11 innings against the Rockies and Cubs.

Baltimore starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez will be making his third start since being recalled from the Minors, but he started 20 games before the brief stint. Gonzalez (7-7) has a 3.61 ERA this season and a 2.61 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break.

Gonzalez is a righty.

Frazier has to play keep playing first because it's been decided that he plays third too well.

Don't worry.....his baseball card did he was a .715 OPS guy. Just because he's at .592 in his 70 starts doesn't mean he won't get there.

Plus his range is eye popping.

I thought I read that Frazier has an achy back? Maybe they feel playing first is easier physically at this point in time.

Guys, Yorman isn't going to start until late in the month according to Price, except maybe a spot start.
http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/mlb/reds/2014/09/02/reds-bryan-price-ease-in-reds-call-ups/14990199/

"September is quite often a great time for young guys to come up and get a look, especially when you're in a situation when you're looking at 2015. We're not there," Price said. "We haven't played terribly well since the All-Star break. I think you're going to see a lot of our regular players in the lineup and sporadically see some of these young guys get in there and get some opportunities. Really more of pinch-hit, pinch-run early in the month and then we'll see how things go for us near the end of the month and then we'll see how things go for us to the end of the month. There may be — hopefully not — but there may be more opportunity for them to play at the end of the month."

even if the reds were in the hunt, I doubt that Yorman would be worse than Skip this year. If we would be in the hunt playing BP everyday (and putting him in the middle of the lineup) would be a bad idea.

Ok, so last night I noted there was no one there, and it was rightly pointed out that there was a rain delay, and it was a work/school night.

So, tonight it's beautiful in Baltimore, the O's have a 9 1/2 game lead in the AL East, and there is still no one there.

Folks love to rip on Cincinnati all the time for attendance. I just thought I'd point out that a winner on the east coast can't draw people. We're not alone.

Indians in a pennant race (again), playing the Tigers at home in Cleveland and only draw 9,000 people.

Steve Smith strikes again.

The score is the bail out for Smith....that ball being tipped by Hardy put Luddy with steam on 3rd and LF was still 20 feet from the ball....he wouldn't have even made a throw.

Oh well, maybe we'll score tomorrow

he deflected the ball and it slowed.. the LF wasnt charging hard.. should have sent him..LOL.. he has to be the worst 3rd base coach in the Majors.. He will send the runner when they are dead meat.. Goodness.. I hate to think I have to treat the Reds like the 90 Bengals.. Not give a crap for a decade till something changes from less @#$#% in the seats!!

Of all the players on the bench, Price picks Hannahan. Why?

Walt called down and told Price "I am not paying him a million a year to sit no matter he isnt doing anything. Got to prove i wasnt wrong on another contract"....

Holmberg has no reason to be even called up.. he is terrible and they keep giving him chances.. they shoudl have brought Partch up. he had a 0.00 ERA.. hmm guess he should have sucked like Holmberg or Hoover to get a gazillion chances..

When Smith held him at third while the LF trotted to get the ball. Orioles had given up trying to stop the score.

i seriously hope Pete Rose can be reinstated and takes over the Reds, because he wont make excuses for the lack of hitting, lack of passion and he wouldnt be happy with this teams refusal to make adjustments at the plate.. just venting over frustration since the last 7 games of last season untill now

Don Mattingly has benched Puig a few times of late. I want Price to look at any Reds player who might be struggling mightily and say hey.....you aren't playing the next two game and if things don't pick up we'll drop you down in the order, platoon or give the position to someone else.

I hate the starters getting catered to like they are Stan Musial and the next guy at their position is a AA player.

Quintin Berry sighting. Nice.

If you cherry pick the four games in Colorado, the Reds are averaging 2.77 runs per game since the ASG. And Price doesn't want to look at the new guys? Seriously? I would think he had seen enough of the regulars.

I commend the handful of faithfuls in here. 100+ posts for a game like tonight is incredible.

If this team is still trying, maybe they should stop. Trying ain't getting it done.

And it borders on insanity, but I will. I truly believe it's more than injuries. I know most don't agree, but this team reminds me of the Dave Miley-Bob Boone-Jerry Narron teams. An embarrassment.

Holmberg is 22, and has had two starts in the bigs. No one really has an idea of how good or bad he can be yet.

And getting a guy to swing at a pitch that's four feet from the plate is exactly what you want your LOOGY to do.
