have to believe the 2014 Reds have broken the ML record for worst percentage of pitches in the strike zone taken versus out of the strike zone swung at.

little league managers would be livid at and exasperated with a team this poor at pitch recognition.

I hope Holmberg is in the mix for the 2015 rotation. The Louisville Bats rotation.

I used to live in Hanahan, SC. Suburb of Charleston (actually North Charleston, but North Chuck is the red-headed stepchild in the Charleston metro area)

Dodgers scored 14 runs against the Cubs. It would take the Reds 42 games to reach that #.

Not true the Reds had scored 15 runs total in just their last 8 games. That is so much better than 42.

I think Big Holmy could potentially replace Leake in the rotation down the line. Pretty dang similar results despite the the whole skinny righty/fat lefty difference.

Next you are going to point out in three games against the Cubs, the Reds scored a total of 1 run while the Dodgers scored 6 runs against the Cubs before making a third out.

Another fine pitching performance by a Reds starter, alas, he will probably lose because of the nowhere to be found offense. 46 runs scored by the Reds in Sept (19) games for an average of 2.2 runs per game.

Sharply hit by Negron, but it hit the mound and that gave Kozma time to get the ball.

Hard to believe the Reds were 1 1/2 games out of 1st on July 17, and now are 15 games out 2 months later. It has to be getting close to some kid of record for futility.

Lefties hitting .104 vs Choate

Bruce 1-11 with 7 Ks vs Choate lifetime.

Righties like Bourgeois and Yorman on the bench. Yet Bruce hits. 1-12, 8 Ks.

How the Reds roll.

As a 1st-year manager, maybe Price deserves a pass for that. Next season he'll probably know better.

Because that's what it's come to? We're defending Price's apparent bad decisions because other managers might do the same?

Bruce is hopeless at this stage.

"The matchups with Jay weren't great. But he's certainly one of our guys. He's been scuffling but he's one of our guys," Price said.

What does this mean, "one of our guys"?

Pinch hitters are imported from Latvia?

I think averaging 2 runs or less per game is higher on the list of concerns for the playoffs than Rosenthal. This feels like a one and done year for the Cardinals.

The one thing I took from last night's game?

Holmberg might not be the bum I thought he was going to be. He looked very bad early this season, he then looked very bad his first couple of chances with the Reds. He has been really good though his last three times out.

Agreed. The last couple starts we've seen from him and Corcino have been encouraging. If both are viable BOR rotation candidates -- and it's looking like that could be the case -- SP depth going into 2015 is suddenly not the potential disaster it was looking it might be if Bailey, Latos and Cingrani were to have lingering health issues.
