Last day is the saddest day of the year. Another mark in time and another season that has vanished in a blink of an eye. I have now been through 43 seasons and each one goes faster than the last. I know I have seen more seasons now than I will see in the future. So I just try to enjoy each one for what it is and hope to see another one in 2015.

It would great to see Cueto get his 20th win today. It would be some salve to a tough season.

I agree, but if you use up too many roster spots on this guy and that guy, you don't have room to add the offense you need.

Negron is fine if he's the backup shortstop (among other positions). Negron ALONG with a Santiago type, with Schumaker (signed), Pena (signed) leaves only the Heisey spot possibly available.

Also while there is no doubt the offense is bad, I'm always amused when people go in histrionics over it...almost always when the team we are playing has the same amount of runs as we do*. The Pirates 681 runs going into today is good for 4th in the NL but would be good for dead last in 2006. Game has changed, brothas.

Congrats to Johnny Cueto! He earned his 20 wins. When does Spring Training start?

first game i've watched in depth in months. This offense is disgustingly bad. Sucks that Cueto is gone next season

He is not gone next season. They are picking up his option.

He is not gone next season. They are picking up his option. He's not going anywhere and neither is Latos. Look for Leake and Simon to be seriously dealt, though. You do not deal your ace and Walt is so much about convention that he will not. Also Castillini won't let him.

I think the only 3 guys that Walt won't consider trading are Frazier, Mez, and Cueto. Everyone else is on the table. Now with that being said, if Latos is dealt first for a legit left field bat or SS, then Leake and Simon are off the table. I don't think anyone will take on Phillips or Vottos contract. I personally would not trade Phillips. Votto would have to return 2 everyday players. LF and or SS. Cozart batted .220 with 4 HRs...we have to upgrade that position. Jay Bruce had a very, very bad season. Walt has to decide whether that was just a fluke or a trend. Some guys just don't have long productive careers. They have 4-5 good years and that is it. Was it a fluke season? Walt will decide.

Just caw where Chappy has the highest swing-and-miss % since Brad Lidge in '04.

I guess I forgot how nasty Lidge was. Dang.

If I remember correctly.....the Reds banged up Lidge a few times......

Really happy for Cueto. He deserved this. I wasn't watching but I have to be honest I would not have liked to have seen him bat in the 8th. But in fairy tale like fashion Cueto gets the hit to give himself his 20th win. You can't make stuff like that up. Just shows you that sports is the best reality show on TV.
Too bad the whole season couldn't have been like the last two games. Two great finishes to games that hopefully will lead to good things in 2015. Have nice winter everyone!

So I just read that Cueto plunked McCutcheon during the Pirates fans chanting at him?

We've got to do right by this group of Reds and bring'm all back to take revenge on the Central next year. This is BS the way this season went.

We were in Minneapolis over the weekend for the Cambodian ceremonies celebrating our daughter and son-in-law's marriage in July. Between the breakfast and morning ceremonies we went back to the hotel to take a break before the evening celebration commenced. I was thrilled the Reds game was on TV, but we went for a walk when the game went into the 10th inning (to walk off the vast amount of food put before us to enjoy!), but I kept checking my phone and celebrated the grand slam finish atop the little hill in Gold Medal Park along the Mississippi River.

On Sunday, we spent the afternoon with my wife's brother and his wife, so we were checking our phones periodically (my wife grew up in Missouri, so the rest of her family are Cardinal fans), so it was fun to see that Johnny knocked in the winning run and then Kris Negron hit the home run to give us critical insurance runs. It was fun to keep up with Aroldis Chapman's closing out the game. My brother-in-law did thank us for assuring the Cards won the division.

Nice finish to a very difficult season. I think my older daughter said it well when she wrote, "Love you, Redlegs. Even a season like this one is better than the offseason." Not sure how much I'll pay attention to the playoffs and World Series. As I recall, this first round is cable only, freezing out folks like me, then by the time the broadcast channels pick it up, I've lost interest. The brilliant thinkers there in MLB, right? Time to get read to stare out the window and wait for spring.

CUE-TO, CUE-TO: Pirates fans have taken to chanting Johnny Cueto's name — they felt like it affected him a year ago in his playoff loss and they've done it time and time again this season. Each time, he's made them pay.

The Reds won all six games against the Pirates that Cueto started this season. He went 5-0 with a 1.76 ERA against Pittsburgh this season.

Pirates fans at Great American Ball Park started the chant right before he hit McCutchen and continued it afterward.

"Yes, I hear them. Like I said before, I've heard them say that," Cueto said, according to Vera. "They only beat me one time."

In his career, Cueto is 18-7 with a 2.21 ERA in 27 career starts against the Pirates.
