Attended the Santa Clara @ Vanderbilt game today. Well. We hung in there ias long as we could until we were frozen. Carson Fulmer is seriously nasty.
I'll probably go back so lo tomorrow for game 1 of 2. Sunday is canned due to potential bad weather Sunday.

Good win for Xavier today. My other team (Marshall) rapped out 31 hits en route to a 24-2 win over FAMU.

We're having the warmest February in our (short recording) recorded history here in Oregon. We're going to have also the worst drought in the history of Oregon. We've had very little rain this season, while Mt. Hood has less snow than Boston. Our February/March games are usually rain-filled affairs. Not this season, though. Oregon State lost seven to the draft last June, and consequently are only ranked 5th in the pre-season Pac-12 relying on a lot of Freshman to contribute. We'll see how it goes.

Oregon State just got a couple of nice wins over #19 Oklahoma State and #10 Oklahoma.
Nicholls State knocked off #4 LSU.

Saw where Vandy was down 10-0 to Illinois State in the second inning. Didn't see that coming! Revenge for Kevin Stallings?

Tie game. KS must've come to the dugout and threatened to kill some one.

Blowing a 10-0 lead has to be kind of deflating. LOL

Ended up 16-10 VU. Deflating indeed.

So much for Oregon State being an also-ran in the Pac-12 this season (pre-season ranked 5th in Conference after losing 7 players to the pros).
From Kenny Eggers of the Portland Tribune...
They have a Freshman (Kainoa John “KJ” Harrison) that bats 3rd in the lineup who just won the National College Baseball Writers Association national hitter of the week. In Oregon State’s first nine games, Harrison is batting a team-high .465 (20 for 43) with four home runs, 15 runs, 14 RBIs, nine walks and unreal percentages for on-base (.574) and slugging (.930). Harrison was a catcher in high school, and Oregon State has one of the nation’s premier defensive backstops in sophomore Logan Ice. So Casey has used Harrison at first base in most of the Beavers’ games thus far, and the youngster has committed only one error. “Best defensive first baseman we have right now,” Oregon State Head Coach Pat Casey said. “He’s a baseball guy.”
Harrison — who won’t turn 19 until August — is a quick study, reminding everyone within the OSU program of two-time Pac-12 player of the year Michael Conforto. “He doesn’t give away at-bats,” said former Beaver catcher Jake Rodriguez, now an undergrad assistant. “It’s rare that he swings at a pitch out of the zone, and when he gets a pitch he wants, he hammers it. Casey, normally conservative with compliments for first-year players, can’t help but gush over Harrison. “No question, he’s our best hitter right now,” Casey said. “He has power, plate coverage, plate discipline. He knows what he’s looking for. He has been able to hit all the pitches. He doesn’t have any fear.”

The Beavers don't rebuild, they reload. It may be cliche, but it is also true.

Another Freshman, Drew Rasmussen, just threw the first Perfect Game in the Conference since 1973. It was just the fourth no-hitter in team history following a two-walk no-hitter last year by Jace Fry versus Northern Illinois and a one-walk (on a 3-2 pitch) no-hitter in 2011 by Josh Osich at UCLA. Rasmussen struck out 10 Washington State batters on 103 pitches.

Sorry, not sorry. :)
If UL had made it, probably would have been the most loaded CWS field that I can remember. It's still going to be great. Miami is uber loaded. Their lineup is good. I'm glad VU is on the other side of the bracket from them. Beating them twice is going to be a chore for anyone. The UF-Miami game should be great.

Unfortunately, the entire Pac-12 was terrible in the Regionals. Worst year in decades, or close to it.
Good luck to all, and there are some real Cinderella's this year.

The "worst" team remaining is last year's runner up and was a consensus top ten team in the preseason. Tons of high draft picks playing. I'm juiced.

If a wild pitch in the 10th inning misses the umpire's shinguard, my son and I would be packing for Omaha. Bummer.

As a fan, winning back-to-back championships is really beyond your wildest dreams, so feeling disappointed after you win a national championship and come within 3 runs of winning a second, makes you feel a little guilty.
Vanderbilt has won 50 games for 3 consecutive years. Before Tim Corbin's 2nd year in 2004, they'd never won 40 in a year. This group of juniors and seniors won 2 SEC East championships, 1 SEC overall championship, set an all-time record for wins in an SEC season, finished national runner-up and won a national championship. And yet the feeling after last night sucked. Then I watched the presser and remembered why it sucked... I'm going to miss Swanson and Wiseman and Weil and Fulmer and the rest so much. Great players and great kids. Thankfully, there's another #1 recruiting class coming in right behind. Plus, found out today that Tyler Beede and Tony Kemp made the US roster for the Futures Game. That helps, too.
Congrats to Virginia. They played great baseball when it mattered most. O'Connor is a good dude and a great coach. (Looks a lot like Bryan Price, though :) )

As an Oregon State Alumni household, I can say that it is very enjoyable.
