Well, we've gone 1, 6, 16...so if we keep the trend of mashing the previous numbers together, 616 tonight. Can the bullpen protect it though?

Cueto's year so far is reminding me of Harang's early season the year Dusty pitched him in relief in San Diego. He pitched great early in the season but got no run support. He pitched awful in L.A. and got knocked out early. They used him in relief in S.D. and that's when the wheels came off.

04-22-2015, 08:45 PM
How on earth is that a balk? again!

I don't have video, but I've never been able to really argue a balk call because they're almost always sooooo close to call. I also know that a BUNCH of opposing teams have been saying for quite a long while now that Cueto's move is a balk everytime. I disagree...but maybe enough people have complained that they're focusing on it now.

There was nothing on either of the balk calls that indicated Cueto balked. This is not a homer POV. I would encourage any baseball fan/ump to review the plays and explain otherwise.

04-22-2015, 08:47 PM

Cueto has faced good pitching all year. Liriano, Wacha twice, and now Nelson.

I'm not saying it is you but people keep acting like the Reds don't score for Cueto when they're facing Jason Marquis type pitchers.

No doubt. That is certainly true. As the ace you have to understand that as well. A few Reds have also rocked some balls pretty good tonight that have just been right at someone. That is the way it goes in this game.

Say what you want about the hitting tonight, but this has been an extremely well pitched game on both sides. Really solid defense too.

Bruce's strikeout rate this year is about 30%.

His K rate has been increasing over the years. It was 27.3% last year. It was 26.5% in 2013.

A power hitter can have a higher strikeout rate. But only up to a point.

Instead of Simon, Jocketty should have moved Bruce this off-season (if possible).

Would have saved more money, for one thing.

TRF had a good laugh at my expense when I mentioned my concern that Bruce wouldn't rebound to his pre-2014 numbers.
