Uh oh. Price is fiddling with the lineup again. Cozart in 2nd slot. That didn't exactly work out too good in a couple of games last week. But then again he has very little to work with.

1. Billy Hamilton (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (S) CF
2. Zack Cozart (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (R) SS
3. Joey Votto (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (L) 1B
4. Todd Frazier (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (R) 3B
5. Jay Bruce (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (L) RF
6. Brandon Phillips (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (R) 2B
7. Marlon Byrd (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (R) LF
8. Brayan Pena (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (S) C
9. Jason Marquis (http://www.baseballpress.com/lineups#) (L) P

He seems to realize BP can't hit 4th but doesn't really have anybody on the roster that can do it. It looks like he's trying to get guys on base in front of Votto while still having Frazier behind Votto. It's a tough team to fill out a lineup card for right now.

He should read this.

http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17/795946/optimizing-your-lineup-by

The Two Hole

The old-school book says to put a bat-control guy here. Not a great hitter, but someone who can move the lead-off hitter over for one of the next two hitters to drive in.

The Books says the #2 hitter comes to bat in situations about as important as the #3 hitter, but more often. That means the #2 hitter should be better than the #3 guy, and one of the best three hitters overall. And since he bats with the bases empty more often than the hitters behind him, he should be a high-OBP player. Doesn't sound like someone who should be sacrificing, does it?

I don't know if the lineup or not skipping Marquis when you have a perfectly good opportunity to do so is worse.

I've almost never rooted against a Reds team due managers/owners etc... (even during the Schott years). But, there are times where I think Price is actively trying to get fired because he hates his job. I'm real close to hoping Marquis gets hammered tonight and Price is booed out of GABP when he walks to the mound.

NebraskaRed

Phillips moved down in the order? That's good.

Votto to 3rd and Cozart at 2? That's bad.

They're playing the Brewers? That's good.

Marquis starting?

Haven't heard a CF-SS joke for awhile. Not since Dusty left, I guess.

This is all on the front office IMO, not on Price.

Price is simply being creative to try and get some baserunners on for Votto and Frazier.

Cozart happens to be hitting now so Price is giving him a try.

These kinds of on base problems were obvious all winter.

Since Price switched the lineup a few games back, and somehow I just knew it was going to happen, we've seen this happen....

Joey Votto 0-4, 0-3, 0-4
Zack Cozart 1-4, 0-4, 1-4

Both those guys were on absolute FIRE...you don't mess with a player when he's in the groove. Dumb move.

Mesoraco hasn't started a game in 16 days. 5 PA during that time. And still days away from "testing" his hip.

Apparently placing him on the 15-day DL was never a possibility in Jocketty's world.

Here is what I would be curious to see them try:

Billy Hamilton
Joey Votto
Todd Frazier
Marlon Byrd
Brayan Pena
Jay Bruce
Brandon Phillips
Zack Cozart
Jason Marquis

Byrd hit 4th most of the Spring and had a nice Spring and seems to be coming around. Obviously Spring is Spring but give it a shot. Phillips/ Cozart seemed to do well in 7/9 role earlier. I don't like Pena as high as 5 but it moves Bruce down.

Anybody watching this Grande-Votto interview? It's pretty clear why Grande is so well respected in this sport, even if we give him a hard time for his play-by-play. Really great interview. And Joey has to be the most honest and thoughtful player I've ever seen. Votto just said this about if he'd played on the Machine:

"It may make people upset, but I'm hitting in the middle of that lineup."

I was 37 years old when I caught my first and only one in 2007 off the bat of Jeff Conine. (It was the game vs. the Phillies in which David Ross grounded into the 5-4-3 triple play.)

I absolutely kept it.

I don't know if I would keep future ones. It would depend on the situation and who had hit it. But my first one? There was no doubt.

Never caught one myself but yeah, would absolutely keep the first. It always bugs me when announcers go on about giving it to a kid. They have no idea if that guy has a kid of his own he may be giving the baseball to.

"Caught" or had foul balls row my way-4 to be exact. Only kept 1 from a Dragons game. I was in Lawn A and the ball bounced a couple times with people scrambling after it. Eventually the ball came to rest beside me-then some kid with encouragement from dad ("get it") stepped on my hand as I reached down. No way he was getting it but I got some nasty looks from other adults. The other 3 I gave to kids.
