I know it sounds too simple but I think you just put people in the line up where they are hitting best eg. Votto 2nd Cozart 8th and then go from there. Cozart in the 2 hole just isn't working.

This is what frustrates me big time....a perfect time for Boesch to face a right hander, and a perfect time for Byrd to sit against a RH, and Price continues to run Byrd out there everyday with his 33% K rate.

villain612
04-30-2015, 04:33 PM
Eh...we need more at bats from Byrd to see if he's going to turn it around or not before pulling the plug. If it's mid-May, and he's still around a .440 ops, then I'd consider making a more permanent switch in LF with Boesch.

Rotate between Leake, Marquis, and Lorenzen when they're not pitching. Boom, you essentially created an extra roster spot. Price considered a genius. Cubs trade us Russell for Price and institute College of Coaches II. Votto named player-manager. World Series titles. Let's get this ball rolling.

With the players available, what would your lineup be?

I'd start with Cozart in the 8 hole and go from there. That's where he's most comfortable; that's where he produces the best (judging by the numbers). Perhaps Cozart 7th with Barnhart playing, but Cozart in the two hole (even before it was learned BP couldn't play) proves once again Price doesn't get it. Cozart should never bat second. He's a low OBP guy with a propensity to ground into double plays. That's the opposite of what you want out of your No. 2 hitter.

If I was making up the lineup tonight (with BP not in lineup):
Boesch LF
Votto 1B
Frazier 3B
Bruce RF
Schumacher 2B
Cozart SS
Barnhart C
Leake P
Hamilton CF

Note:
It is very hard to make a decent lineup with the players on this team

If the regulars were all available, including Rocco and Phillips, absolutely not. I wouldn't have Hamilton leading off either.

With Rocco and Phillips out of the lineup I don't mind Cozart there.

I'd rather Bruce hit there, but I can live with it.

And I'll take my baseball iq over your's any day of the week. I like fooling around but I'm wicked smart. Ask my mom.

Chuckie
04-30-2015, 06:51 PM
Keep in mind, Price's original lineup for this game was released BEFORE Phillips was ruled out. And he still had Cozart batting second.

So, with BP, here's how the lineup should have looked:

1. Hamilton
2. Votto
3. Frazier
4. Bruce
5. Phillips
6. Byrd
7. Barnhart
8. Cozart (or you could flip Barnhart/Cozart)

Batting a player like Cozart in the two hole is mindless. And if he has a good night tonight, it doesn't make it a wise move. You could drive home drunk and not hurt anyone and not get a DUI, but that doesn't make it a good decision just because it happened to work out well.

With BP out, I'd bat Byrd second (actually I'd rather have Boesch in there) and Schumaker 6th. Not ideal, but better than batting Cozart in the two hole.

There aren't many good lineup options currently. Not gonna skewer Price over this one.

And although it won't hold up over the entire season, Cozart currently has a .826 ops.

The guy you want to put there is rocking a .441 one.

When making these decisions, it would be wise to consider this fact:

Career stats > Stats based on 21 games this season.

But if you think Cozart magically turned into a good hitter, it's all good.

Good thing for Frazier that a strike out is the same as any other out.

A couple days ago when they put Fraizer in the clean-up spot for the first game he joked about how the extra base hit drought from that spot was going to end. I think he jinxed himself.
