I know that lineup construction doesn't matter much, but wow I don't get putting Byrd in the 2 hole.Yeah, I would have rather seen them push 3-7 up one spot, and bat Byrd in the 7 hole. I know Byrd is doing better than how he started the year, but Votto was on fire in the two hole, so I'd still like to see them go back to batting him there full time.

SlimJim11
05-05-2015, 03:50 PM
I think Price would love to keep Votto 2, but since the team has no leadoff hitter he came up with nobody on base a large % of the time.

As people have said before, with the players on this team it's extremely difficult to put a lineup together. everybody outside of Votto/Frasier should hit 6th or below.

Since that is the case, I think I'm ok with moving guys up that are currently swinging a hot bat, Byrd is .250/.368/.625/.993 the past 7 days.

I know that lineup construction doesn't matter much, but wow I don't get putting Byrd in the 2 hole.

Maybe he thinks Byrd will get more fastballs, assuming Hamilton gets on base. Or maybe he likes the way he's been swinging the bat lately.

Or perhaps he just pulled names out of a hat a-la Billy Martin?

Kc61

Perhaps it's worth mention that the Reds are facing a lefty.

So Byrd gets a more prominent spot in the lineup. And Bruce drops down a notch.

If Cozart were playing, I'm sure he'd be hitting second.

I'd rather they keep him on a normal schedule and then shut him down at some time in the second half. We've got plenty of guys who can come up and take his remaining starts as needed.

05-05-2015, 05:15 PM
Price is rotating whoever is "hot" lately into the 2 hole. Byrd has been good the last 10 games.

I'd still bat Votto second, but this is a lineup that has Pena and Negron starting in it. Much ado about nothing.

This is what I was going to say. Plus, he only had the one start. Not sure it would be such a good idea to skip him before getting him into a regular rhythm.

http://m.reds.mlb.com/news/article/122534050/reds-shortstop-zack-cozart-out-of-lineup-against-pirates-with-finger-wrist-injuries

"It's not feeling great. My finger feels better but it's so bruised up, I can't really get a grip," Cozart said on Tuesday. "My wrist is barking a little more than I was expecting. I left the field Sunday and my wrist felt fine. I was just worried about my finger and the nail and everything. I woke up [Monday] and my wrist was pretty stiff. It's kind of the same today."
Cozart did not lose the nail from his finger, but said it looked nasty under the bandage. He also wore a compression bandage on his wrist. Both injuries received treatment and his status for a return is viewed as day-to-day.
"Hopefully if I can get the blood flowing or something, it will get better because I definitely want to be out there," Cozart said.

I'll admit, I wrote him off. And it wasn't just based on the stats, it was from watching the games. His bat speed looked slllllloooooowwww. And that's not something that magically turns itself around. Not sure what happened, but he now looks like the Byrd that was the ~25 HR guy the last 2 seasons.

I was looking at the PFX numbers for Lorenzen on Gameday and realized they meant nothing to me. So, I went out on this thing called the Interweb and read up on those numbers. This makes me somewhat of an expert now.....NOT! In any case, from what I can gather, Lorenzen throws hard but his fastball is flat. It moves horizontally alright, but vertically not so much. I think. Do not quote me.

I agree with you. It's probably the right call. It's easy for us to say stuff like that behind keyboards though. Having a move like that backfire is the quickest way a manager can lose his job, especially a fringe guy like Price.

The only argument against it I think is I don't really like bringing in Chapman in the middle of an inning. Seems less effective to me as opposed to when he starts one.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States[1] and in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla,[note 1][2][3][4] where the holiday is called El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).[5][6][7] Mexican Americans also often see the day as a source of pride; one way they can honor their ethnicity is to celebrate this day.[8]

The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[3][9] In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken to be Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.[3][10]
