This Marlon Byrd hitting second thing was useful getting him going.

But right now BP is hitting like a lead off hitter. Could use more walks, but is getting many hits and has a decent OBP.

Do not see why BP isn't hitting at the top of the lineup, even lead off. If his luck wears off, you make a change.

Need to do something. Including the pitchers spot, 5 of the 9 in the lineup are hitting below .215. That's pretty bad.

there is no reason billy is hitting leadoff. bp is hitting a lot, but without any power => there is no reason to not move him up in the leadoff position and billy down.

is bp a great guy to hit leadoff (he is not the greatest choice, yet he is hitting like one this season..)

Basically just saying that the Braves used to hit a lot of HRs and that obviously doesn't work because it results in too many strikeouts, you need more guys who put the ball in play because that's what the successful teams do. He did not list any examples, or expand further, clearly feeling his statement was unquestionably true.

Well, that's the point I've been trying to make in the Bruce thread. A high strikeout rate. A high fly ball rate. Lot of outs.

Unless the fly balls are hit with real authority and leave the stadium or hit the wall. Or unless they are line drives.

Votto might be scuffling a little bit right now but I still think you're absolutely nuts if you pitch to him in the 7th inning of a tie game with the go ahead runner at 3rd and a base open.

Didn't Avilan strike him out last night?

Doesn't "sacrifice" bunt or fly or whatever imply that we sacrificed an out? Well, they're scoring it as 2 sac bunts and a sac fly this inning...and yet there are 2 outs. Maybe I'm missing something.

official scorer is official

The error means "should have been out" in this case right? So a 3 sacs and and error means you still have an out remaining?

The error doesn't cancel out the sac ruling it doesn't remove the runner if a pitcher gets a k and the runner gets to first he still gets the k, not the out

I still think the biggest organizational philosophy misstep is this idea that starters start, relievers relieve, every day players play every day, and bench players sit the bench. The Reds don't look for the best 12-13 arms and fit them in accordingly, nor do they look for players who could start on a regular basis for the bench. Instead they pigeon hole guys into specific roles and hope for the best. Then when BP or Cozy goes down, you don't have a ready replacement. You've got to run dreck out there like Skippy and Negron.
