Arguably the best hitter on the team right now is hitting....8th. Dusty Baker must be smiling.

This logic of "I want a good hitter at the end of the lineup so the front of the lineup has runners to drive in" is so dumb I can't even think about it without vomiting. Not to mention, Billy continues to lead off. Best hitters hit high up in the lineup, preferably high OBP in the first couple slots. It's not rocket science. In fact, every other slot in the order would make more sense for him, even lead off. Yet Price does about the opposite. :bang:

I can't believe many major league managers drastically change batting order based on who's hot at any single short stretch of time. If players are doing their job then the lineup is spot on. If players can't do their job, move them down in the order? I say no. Find a replacement who can.

Whatever he does at the plate, however it ends up, what's indisputable is his power has increased. There is no doubt about it.

How is this indisputable? He had a year when he had 15 HRs and over 30 doubles. You think he'll reach 15 HRs and over 30 doubles this year? Maybe he will, but what I see with Cozart is a better ability to put the ball in play. And not only that, but hit the ball hard. I don't see more power than he had in 2012 or '13 ... but I do see a guy making more contact, hitting more line drives.

So, again, I'm encouraged, but skeptical at the same time if that makes any sense. Guys don't usually do 180s at the plate at the age of 29.

05-13-2015, 08:32 PM
Whatever he does at the plate, however it ends up, what's indisputable is his power has increased. There is no doubt about it.

It always seemed to me that last year it looked like he was almost forcing himself to try to go the other way. Maybe one of the coaches suggested it, who knows. But he was leaning a ton more than he used to and everything was weak contact.

So when do we start talking about the possibility of WANTING the Reds to have Byrd's option vest?

05-13-2015, 08:37 PM
How is this indisputable? He had a year when he had 15 HRs and over 30 doubles. You think he'll reach 15 HRs and over 30 doubles this year? Maybe he will, but what I see with Cozart is a better ability to put the ball in play. And not only that, but hit the ball hard. I don't see more power than he had in 2012 or '13 ... but I do see a guy making more contact, hitting more line drives.

So, again, I'm encouraged, but skeptical at the same time if that makes any sense. Guys don't usually do 180s at the plate at the age of 29.

I'll bet you he slugs at least .75 higher than last year.

If they were to treat Marquis as a true long man, like they were to Cingrani earlier this year, I'd be fine with it. In a blowout...bring him in. In extra innings and everyone else has been used...bring him in. Otherwise, put him to sleep.

That being said, if they think this new kid Matheus is solid...I'd be fine with a Marquis DFA (or a DL stint for Badenhop)
