Reds are in Philadelphia for a three game series starting tonight. Each game is at 7:05 PM. The game tonight is the free game on mlb.tv

The game tonight is key to the Reds to see if Cueto is healthy, to continue the hot play, and try to win the series. The odds of winning tomorrow against Hamels must be lower than the odds that Hamels finally no hits the Reds. Game 3 is a tossup with the hot hand of Harang facing off against the Desclafani, who hopes to continue his turn around.

The weather for tonight looks dismal: Cool with sheets of drizzle.
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-75.16237&lat=39.95416#.VW31R89Viko

This Afternoon Showers likely, mainly before 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 58. Northeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Tonight A chance of showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Cueto's Elbow also works as a band name- probably for an alt Jazz/punk band.

Good guys win 2 of 3.

Cueto eases all injury concerns by dominating the punchless Phillies.

Leake bounces back and has a good start, but it's not enough as the Reds cannot hit Cole Hamels. Ever.

Harang is just due for a crap start.

I never got to see much of Belanger. When I did get to see him, it was a treat. One of the slickest I've ever seen.

And the reason he never got that tag was because it was the norm. Just about all of the SS's in that era were weak hitting.

1972 to 1977 or so, nearly all the shortstops were about .700 ops or below. Only a couple of exceptions. Toby Harrah was probably the best hitting shortstop of that era. But he was also a pretty poor defender as SS's go. It wasn't uncommon for the starting SS to be a sub .600 ops. Simply a different mindset back then. Any hitting a SS gave you, it was gravy.

He didn't say that. I think George says that about everyone. I think if he saw me play he'd say, "Boy, that Chip R. He was one of the best vintage base ball pitchers ever."

Yes, but depending on the context, perhaps it was implied. I seem to remember him mentioning Jimmy Rollins right then, so I assumed he meant Philadelphia SS's. (Rollins and Bowa would be the cream of the crop for the Phillies).

Good call on Yount. Trammell....I don't recall him being a good hitter until later in his career. He was right on par with Davey IIRC towards the first half of his career.

Now that I think about it, Robin was kind of weak hitting at first too. Didn't he come up in the mid to late 70's?

Now that I'm thinking about these guys, I seem to remember them all turning into really good hitters and even power hitters later in their careers. I hate to suggest it, but I wonder if that's when steroids started to make their way into the game? Because I remember a bunch of 70's-esque light hitting SS's who ended up as strong power hitters after about 5-10 years in the league.

Templeton was a legitimate Top 2 shortstop in the NL when he was in St. Louis. He was the best SS in the league in 1980. But after he was traded to San Diego his offensive game went south.
